AR,
If Jay is like me, detailed instructions on getting to the lens and various adjustments are very valuable. I like procedures with photos a lot since I seem to make anything simple harder than it should be and I oversimplify complex (and potentially dangerous) procedures.
Even service manuals assume you have almost expert knowledge like details on the best way to actually get to the CRTs to clean them. You can sometimes remove a lot of screws and panels and end up getting nowhere. Forums like ours is the only place to get this kind of detail and thats whey we are all here. Maybe the RPTV forum is a better place for this?

Ahhh yes of course. Sorry. I just reread that post. Now I understand. I just woke up. Once again I have a case of foot in mouth disease.
SO does anyone have the detailed instructions?

Back to the same repair..hmm the joints beneath the transformer appear to be bad once again, either poor job in my part or more than likey a resistance issue where they are actually overheating at the solder joints and blowing fuses?

Can you post a pic of those solder points?

I just got it going again with a re-solder to the joints, been on for several hours. The joints appeared like they had been hot at some point after the last repair or I didn't get good contact w/board, I laid it on a little heavier and I'll take another look after its been on for awhile. I'll see about getting a pic

I am trying to open the service menu on my RCA D52W23 to fix an over-scan problem but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I found this post while searching for answers.
Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch

If I remember correctly, with the tv off, press the channel up and power buttons at the same time. It should turn on in service mode. If not that, try channel down and power. One of those should work. If not I can look it up. Just be careful in there. I think the 1st or second setting in there, you will lose sync if you change it. When your done just power off and it should save your settings.
If this doesn't work, I probably have the manual here somewhere.

With the tv off, try pressing and holding the channel down and volume down buttons on the tv at the same time. It may take 8 or 10 seconds.

Welcome. Just be careful in there. You may want to write down settings before you change anything.

|
|
For several months now all has been working good after re-soldering joints under the transformer and replacing the fuse. Now I'm starting to get a convergence problem again, it starts to happen after the set has been on for 10 minutes or so, goes out of convergence for 2-5 minutes then corrects. Now it goes out for much longer (1/2 hour) then recorrects, now it may be out for good....
Probably should replace the whole board?

Sometimes when a solder joint has been overheated it gets a corrosion layer on the contact or component lead. Laying more solder on is only a temporary solution because it still doesn't have full contact and will still overheat, especially if its a high current circuit. What you need to do, one pin at a time is remove all the solder and clean the pin with a blade until its nice and shiny all the way around, and then clean the contact the same way so both parts are nice and clean and provide a good surface for solder contact.
Its like using to small a wire for the current being drawn. It will work for awhile until it gets hot again and burns the wire to break. If you dont replace it the next time with the correct size wire, it will eventually heat up again and burn through.

Well, I'm really stumped.
Convergence would go out or be out when set turned on, turn the power off and then back on the convergence is fine. Did this off and on for about 2 months. Convergence now out all together, replaced the convergence board. Still the same.
I also noticed the convergence line on occasion would move from the top down to the middle in a straight line, the set will then turn itself off and then at times back on.
Dazed and confused!
what's the board called that the fly transformer uses? I believe it maybe that?
