I don't think it's spec'd or advertised, but I think you should be covered. Range is good enough to go through two walls, to the PS3, about 45 feet away at my place. Haven't tested it further.

The range for bluetooth remote is 33 feet. I believe that is the minimum range of any bluetooth device, but there are devices which can have a longer range.

As soon as I'm well enough to put a shirt on, I'm going to buy a PS3. Right now I feel like Atilla The Hun is trying to rip my arm off.

For our purposes is there any reason to buy a PS3 with a bigger hard drive. As I understand it, most just get the $399.00 version with the small HD. Thanks,

No reason to at all. In fact, upgrading the hdd is dead easy if you ever want a bigger one. If you're ONLY using it as a BD player, the hdd is inconsequential. If you game, getting the 80GB edition allows you to play all PS2 games as well, something you can't do with the 40GB edition(or so I've read...).

If you can find a used 60GB version... that one supports SACD playback.

(The 80GB version may have SACD too... I don't know)

I love the way the PS3 handles SACD playback... In the menu all the various tracks of the SACD show up and you can pick which one you want. For example,.. the only SACD I have is Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and it has 3 versions on the disc: 2 channel CD, 2 channel SACD, and 5.1 SACD. With my other SACD player I don't know which mix I get from the headphone jack but with the PS3 you just pick the mix you want right from the menu system.

I won't be using it for music/cd playback. Mostly dvd playback (sd and bd). I also just read that it's easy (10 minute job) and cheap to upgrade the HD for more storage. A 250 gb sata laptop hd can be bought for under $115.00. Can a whole bd movie be saved on it's hd for instant viewing? How many bd's could be stored on a 250 gb drive?

I haven't ripped any myself, but a BD movie should be on the order of 20GB. You can also rip it to any PC in the house, and run a uPnP media server on the PC. Then the PS3 can play the movie directly from the PC, so you don't need ANY local space for movies.

Many network storage products have built-in uPnP servers. So e.g. for a little more than the price of that 250gb SATA drive, you could put a 500GB media server on your network: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822154165

Hey,

BD movies aren't made for storeing on Hard Drives.

In terms of numbers the largest Blu Rays weigh in under 50 GB. So,.. Looks like 5 would fit.

You can find lots of statistics about Blu Rays including sizes here..

http://www.blu-raystats.com/

Blu Rays don't just leave the door open for copy like HD DVD's did though. Some people have experiemented with capturing the data from them with luck. Personally,.. I think 50GB stored on disc for me is nice and I wouldn't want to put it on a hard drive but that's just me.

Hey, what are you, the Blue Ray cops Wink I did buy it today, along with the bt remote and one movie "Gone Baby Gone" which was her choice. The only reason I asked is because this player will reside in my equipment rack which is in the garage, two walls and thirty feet away. My thought was it would be nice to have one or two show-off type movies saved there for quick viewing.
OK Kojak Wink Laughing Laughing
just busting them Brian, thanks,

Hey,

Ok,.. Sorry,.. Didn't mean to be so righteous and stuff about the pirate stuff.

I sort of wish the anti-copy stuff on Blu Ray would work though. When you think about it you really get a lot of content for a great price when you buy a Blu Ray,.. I mean, I guess that's how I see it.

Either way,.. Those pesky FBI warning screens aren't going to go away so doesn't matter. I'm loving when studios put that stuff at the end of the film instead of before it though,..

Congrats on the PS3 purchase. I hope you love it. I certainly love mine.

Just as a warning Gone Baby Gone is a good flix but it is very grainy-gritty looking. Not the best example of how good a BD can look.

If you want to be impressed pick up a copy of TFE, in my book still one of the best transfers out there. Ratatouille is a lot of fun too.
