Seems Like after I have allowed the projector to warm up for about a half hour. I usually have to tweak the red because its drifted. I have a spare 1272 that has bad tubes any ideas on a possible fix involving a part from the 1272?? Thanks in advance

You could do a tube swap, but the 1272 may not be a lot better in the drift department. I had red drift on my 1271, and I haven't used it as much, but I think my 1272 has a little drift on the red, too. These machines are just getting old enough that stuff isn't quite up to spec - dried caps, etc.
If you wait until the machine is warm, then converge... The next time you use it, if you wait until it's up to temp, will it come back into convergence? If you're like me, you always want to screw with it, so it's always right, but it's because you're always screwing with it.
How's your physical setup? Nice and square to screen and centered, and not too much point convergence? Have you done stig/flare? Have you checked to make sure the CPC magnets and deflection coils are nice and tight on the tube neck and pushed all the way to the bell?

Thanks for your info. I must admit a LOT of what you said to check, I have no idea how to do. Here is where you lost me

I usually let it warm up fro about a half hour before I converge, but next time when I do the same, I still have to adjust the red. You are rite this thing is old and when I hung it (7 years ago) I did so to the best of my ability so it MAY not be totally square. Its served me well but at sometime I may have to replace or upgrade.

Are you committing your settings to memory after adjustments?

Yes Mike I hit the memory button each time. Also I hate to be a party pooper but I just got my hdfury and toshiba hd a3 hooked and up to my 1270 so far I haven't been that impressed by the upconvert or the two free hd dvd 2 of the Bourne identity series. The player is outputting 1080i and there there is some improvement just not as much as I was expecting. Maybe its just me expecting too much. Any thoughts?

How many hours are on the 'ol 1270 now? The older it is and the more hours on the ES tubes, the softer the machine will be. The softer the machine, the less revealing the difference will be between SD and HD.
I can tell you that with my relatively minty (but with ~3200 hours), the difference between SD and HD is pretty major. So much so, I got to be an HD snob pretty quickly. I'm not sure when or if I'll ever get back to watch all my old SD DVD's that I've never even seen (Forrest Gump) because I LOVE watching HD now.

Seems pretty straight forward though.. at this point I have been trying to explain to my wife what a big difference it would be.. Looks like I have egg on my face..lol

If you hold the test button on your remote control for 8-10 seconds you can enter the service mode, then go to page 5 and you will see crt hours

At this point I'm thinking something is wrong. The difference is just not that noticeable. Player is outputting 1080i, fury is lit up blue, I see on the last "page" screen sync in on pos while it was on neg with my iscan. Any ideas on some setting I have maybe mis adjusted? Thanks Guys PLEASE help me save face with the boss...lol
