I Googled "S300 S500" and find a zilloin press releases like:

http://uk.cinenow.com/articles/7624-sony-bdp-s300-sony-bdp-s500-sony-confirms-player-release

Which state:

Quote:
Sony launches upgraded version of its recently announced Blu-ray BDP-S300 in the form of high-end Sony BDP-S500 Blue-Ray Player.

The BDP-S500 is very similar to the S300, design and size wise, but in addition offers HDMI 1.3, instead of the standard HDMI v1.BDP-S500 supports a wide variety of formats and media, including CD, BD-ROM, DVD, and DVD video playback from DVD/DVD±R/±RW encoded discs, as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG images stored on DVD±R/±RW discs and BD-R/RE discs.

The BDP-S500 features a motorized sliding panel at the front which opens automatically when you load or eject a disc, new x.v.Colour standard, BRAVIA Theatre Sync technology and film reproduction at 24p True Cinema. Loaded with new-fangled technologies, the BDP-S500 is aimed at customers demanding a definitive high-definition viewing experience. The player will be available from the end of October at an estimated price €899. Just like its elder brother the latest model comes with a complementary copy of the Spider-Man High Definition Trilogy on Blu-ray Disc.

Seems to be out of date by at least a month or more. They still have the PS3 listed as Profile 1.1 (not 2.0). It's also getting DTS-HD MA support in the next week or two.
