I hope I am in the right place to ask this question, I have just bought the above machine on Ebay as a present for my Dad, turned it on and the screen is almost completely green. Can't adjust the colours to get rid of the green and bring the other colours through.
Is there something in particular that this will be with this type of machine and is there a way of fixing it?
Thank you for your time and I apologise if I am in the wrong place, just really sad for my Dad and I would love to be able to fix it.

Marty,
This forum is for CRT projectors - the big 3-lens behemoths you may remember seeing in bars or pictures of home theaters from 10 years ago - just like the photo icon at the top-left of the web site.
If your digital is indeed broken, the chances of being able to repair it are slim to none. Though folks here have lots of technical expertise, those digital projectors are basically designed to be disposable. That's why they're worth so little used, and even less in non-working condition. If I were you, I'd take my lumps and look for a cheap projector locally - craigslist is a good place to watch - that you can pick up in known good working condition.
It's worth noting that you may be able to recoup some of your investment by selling a good, used working bulb on ebay and throwing the rest in the trash - especially if you can determine that it doesn't have too many hours on it. It will also help if you can do some research and find out if that particular bulb in your projector model was used in many other models and perhaps even other manufacturer's models. Google is a good place to start searching.
You might also try posting for help here in case somebody knows about some quirks or common problems with that model/series of projector:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=68
Sorry I don't have better news for you.

This forum has truly come into it's own today when a digital guy comes seeking help from us..
Marty, do try avsforum, but chances are the LCD panel is shot, thus the green screen. It's not worth repairing. About all you can do is try and find another cheap Epson on eBay with a different problem and mix and match parts to get one going, but sending it into Epson will get you some $100 flat rate to look at it, if they'll accept it at all, and they will also deem it not worth repairing.
Sorry!

What the projector advertised as "as is" or broken? If it was advertised as being in working condition I would contact the seller. If they refuse to help, open up a paypal dispute.

He said it had been in a cupboard for a while but was working but also used the words 'sold as seen'
He is encouraging us to try Ebay disputes as he is refusing to help in any other way

eBay will refund your money. I sold an item as is (clearly marked on the auction), customer expected a perfect unit. He disputed through Paypal, and got his money back despite the clear 'as is' auction for a nonworking unit.

Sorry, this is going off topic, you have a great forum and I feel I am spoiling it but just a quick question, would people advise raising a dispute through Ebay or Paypal first?

Oh, that's funny. If you only saw some of the stuff that goes on here... Spoil it. Good one.
eBay and PayPal are one in the same now, aren't they? I'd start with ebay and go from there... misrepresented auction... It said, "see description" and there is none - just photos of what looks to be a working projector.
If I saw the right auction, the projector was only a dollar, but shipping was $60, yes? The question for Curt, et al is would ebay/PayPal refund the shipping fees, or only the auction closing price? When you had to refund the guy in your example, did you have to refund the entire transaction amount?

It came with a screen, which was also damaged and discoloured.

Interesting, looking at the specs the projector was misrepresented on Ebay. The Ebay listing says native resolution is 1280X1024 while other sites claim it's 1024X768.

A bit of a dodgy ebay posting. He uses stock photos which is always a warning sign as it don't represent at all likely how the items look/ He does mention that it's "Sold as seen" (which I assume means "sold as is" to the rest of us). He also does allude to the fact that it's probably not worth much when he says "the bulb is worth over £100.00 to buy so there for sold as seen".
He's not very honest in that he doesn't say the screen is damaged and discoloured. That should be obvious to even him.
Obvious that he posted it hoping someone would bite. Had he showed real pictures nobody would obviously buy the screen or projector. It's not a very nice tactic at all, selling broken stuff "as is" but then, I'm not really sure if it's against any rules especially since he said it's "as is".
You'd likely get your money back if you dispute it but is that really the right thing to do? He said you'd get it "as is" and didn't give any information as to how the stuff "is". I don't know what the right thing to do is. He was dishonest slimy enough to list it this way, and unfortunately you fell for it.
EDIT: I suppose you could argue his description of "this is working ...". As obviously with a damaged screen and broken (all green video) projector, it is NOT working. What's the definition of working? FWIW, I'd probably dispute it myself as I hate this sort of shady tactics, especially if you emailed him and he is unresponsive or tells you to open a dispute (which is odd as 9 times out of 10 the buyer wins a dispute).

Yep, that's a misrepresented sale if I've ever seen one. Just because you say 'as-is' doesn't mean you can sell broken merchandise - especially when you say "this is working". I'd dispute it for sure.
One thing that does surprise me... 33 bids and winning price of over $200 US... Is it pretty hard to find an old XGA digital projector in the UK? Maybe it's because of the screen, but I'm surprised that A) there was that much bidding activity and that B) the price went that high without any photos at all of the actual auction items or without a decent description.
If that would have been my crappy auction, there probably would have been 5 bids and the final price would have been $37.

Marty just curious what do you have connected to it that is giving you the green screen? I noticed it has component input, you may just not have it ether setup or connected correctly. Try connecting it to a VCR or computer and and see if the image is still green. The best thing for you would be to get it working.

I have tried it connected to two different DVD players and it's the same, I have left it playing for a while and it now seems the screen is mostly blue instead of green

Unfortunately "A/V cable" doesn't tell us much - it's a generic term (they're all A/V cables). You mean composite?
The plug looks like this:
And the cable looks like this:
If this is not what you used, take a look at this page: http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTPrimer_17.shtm
And tell us which of the pictures describes the cable you used (the choices are: Composite, Svideo, component, RGBHV, DVI, HDMI)
I was thinking about the green screen as well: If you feed an RGBHV signal into a component (YPbPr) input the screen will be green. This is a very common problem as most people don't know that RGBHV and component are two different types of signals. This is probably not the problem though.
If you've connected using a single composite cable as above, then the problem is with the projector most likely.

Well it turned out the guy reversed his credit card charges, which caused Paypal to reverse the Paypal charges. I called Paypal and bitched since I hadn't gotten the projector back, and they said they could do nothing about it.
A few calls at 3 AM NY time to the punk, waking him up each time finally got me my projector back. I relisted it and got $10 less for it the second time around, so it all worked out. Seems that Paypal almost always looks out for the buyer.
With the one exception where they did a courtesy payment when some guy in Italy had an incorrect address in Paypal that I sent parts to.. twice.. then he filed a dispute, saying he never got the parts. I bitched at Paypal, saying I was out $90 in shipping alone, and even though they gave him a refund, they also gave me the shipping charges. I've gotten one out of two parts shipments back so far, with 'undeliverable' on the box, I expect the second one back sometime next month.

The native res for that pj is 1027*768 and not 1280*1024 as the ad says.
Also as far as I can see the pj don't support component and feeding such a signal through RGB input will show a green picture. Or was it blue, don't remember as it was a while ago I tested. Say cyan to be covered.
