high-definition viewing. It allows you to view high-definition (HD) content from
component sources on your existing projector or HD-ready TV.
The perfect match for the HDfury!
Simply plug the HDfury directly into
the Box1040's RGB IN port and your display to the Box1040's RGB OUT port and you
now have an excellent HDMI input for Blu-ray players (and other HDMI devices)
along with an excellent component input for older devices like cable/satellite boxes

As described in our
Greyscale & Colour Calibration for Dummies

image quality. Videophiles
look for this feature as it is a critical one to
have in order to obtain a proper gamma curve.
Without gamma boost dark details are simply lost:

The HDfury2 solves all original HDfury issues, including:
A few source devices have issues handshaking with DVI-D (hdcp)
devices such as the original HDfury, requiring the use of an HDMI switch between the source and the
original HDfury.
SOLVED!
HDfury² uses an HDMI input instead of DVI-D (hdcp) granting compatibility with all HDMI sources including
those that could not handshake properly with DVI-D (hdcp) devices.
Some sources like the Denon 4308 receiver could not
handshake with an incomplete CEA861 EDID extension block causing issues with the
original HDfury.
SOLVED!
The HDFury² CEA861 EDID extension
block is compliant to latest Rev. D.
The picture is shifted to the left on some displays when
using the original HDfury and it could not be centered within the display's adjustment range.
Use of external device such as RTC2200 or
Box 1020 was needed.
SOLVED!
HDFury² doesn't shift the picture to
the left. It is perfectly centered at all resolutions.
Some sources do not output enough current on their digital
output pin#14. Use of external power supply was needed for the original HDfury (either Wall
Plug or USB).
SOLVED!
HDFury² consumes 160mA less current
while running at 1080p compare to the original HDfury. HDfury² supports more sources out
of the box without requiring the use of the power supply.
Some users reported their original HDfury ran "hot" after
many hours of use.
SOLVED!
HDFury² unit runs 1.2w cooler at
1080p than the original HDfury.
The original HDfury is unable to run long analog cables on its output.
ex: Displays with VGA cords is problematic.
SOLVED!
HDFury² can run longer analog cables
on its output (to approximately 25-35 feet).
Hard to identify when the power supply is required
for the original HDfury (some source devices do not provide enough current on pin14.
SOLVED!
HDFury² has a new LED system which
indicates power status: If the LED is OFF or blinking then the HDFury² is not
receiving enough power from the source device and the external HDFury² power
supply must be used. If the LED is ON the HDFury² is receiving adequate power.

To help our users step up to one of the best tristimulus colorimeters on the
market today, SpectraCal is offering a limited time pricing through
CurtPalme.com on the
Chroma5/CalMAN bundle: $110 off their regular SpectraCal price!
To quote Derek Smith of SpectraCal:
"I've recently spent a
lot of time with X-rite's Chroma 5 colorimeter, and
I've come to have a whole new level of respect for
it. It's hands down the best colorimeter there is.
So I was talking to the
good folks at CurtPalme.com recently about what a
pity it was that people are still using "dime store"
meters – meters I can see on my test bench are often
off by ten percent or more in their readings – when
the Chroma 5 is only a few dollars more.
They explained to me
that at the entry level, a few dollars matters a
lot. To someone performing their first calibration
and not sure whether the process will even work for
them, the initial outlay is important.
So I talked to my
partners in SpectraCal, and we agreed that we'd like
to drive the cost of the Chroma 5 down to the lowest
level we can possibly stand, on a temporary basis,
to help launch it among enthusiasts. "Once the word
gets out how good it is," L.A. said, "the Chroma 5
should sell itself just from the comments on the
forums." So to get the comments started, we've
agreed to try seeding the market with some Chroma 5
packages we don't make any money at all on.
(L.A. interrupts to
remind me that SpectraCal's everyday price for the
Chroma 5/CalMAN bundle – $499 – is about a third of
what you'd buy it for anywhere else in the world.)
We sharpened our pencils
and worked out that the absolute lowest price we
could get you a Chroma 5 and CalMAN is $389, and we
calculated that we could only afford to do that for
about two weeks before we have to get back to
reality and start charging prices again with a
little bit of margin in them for us.
So if you've thought at
all about trying out this home theater calibration
stuff, and you've been wavering (maybe you haven't
been able to justify the price to your significant
other), I'd encourage you to take advantage of this
one-time offer, good only for the rest of August,
and only through CurtPalme.com.
Drop me an email (spectracal@curtpalme.com)
if you have any questions. I would love for you to
have a chance to experience how good a meter the
Chroma 5 is." - Derek Smith, SpectraCal LLC
So there you have it! If you've been considering
upgrading to the Chroma 5, now's the best time to do
it. An an OEM of X-Rite, SpectraCal is uniquely positioned to offer
the Chroma 5 at a price considerably lower than anywhere else
to begin with. This the same meter that Sencore sells as the ColorPro V for $4,000 USD!

Box1020 & HDfury: A
gamer's perspective
July 29, 2008
It's been known for some time that the
Box1020 /
HDfury combo breaths new
life into older displays for movie watching but what about for games? Does it
help? How?
Our forum moderator and hardware expert Jeremy (AnalogRocks) puts the Box1020
and HDfury combo through its paces and shows the results that both movie fans
and gamers can expect to see.
"It's a GREAT little combo. I highly recommend it. Especially for those of
you that have an old TV that's an HDTV ready monitor but only has component
inputs. This combo will get your TV upgraded to handle the new crop of digital
players such as PS3, XBOX360 Elite, Blu-ray and satellite/cable boxes with HDMI
outputs."

Customers are loving
Moome's new NEC XG/Runco
991 HDMI 1.3
input card!
July 27, 2008
Reviews of
Moome's XG-FULLHD HDMI 1.3 input card for NEC
XG and Runco 991 CRT projectors are pouring in and everyone loves it!
There are only 12 cards left in the current batch of 50 so if you're
looking at adding an HDMI 1.3 input to your NEC XG or Runco 991 any time soon,
now's the best time! More information.
"I received my XG-FULLHD HDMI card today and I love it!
The picture is much better than what I was seeing previously. I was using a
HDFury with my Sony BD300 and VP30 video processor and was never very happy with
it. Now I have the VP30 plugged directly into the new HDMI card and the picture
is sensational. Couldn't believe how easy it was to install and setup.
Thanks Moome!!" - Rob
"...very quick install/setup and first impressions are that the XG-FULLHD
card is noticeably sharper than my HDfury/RTC2200 setup..." - Lance
"There is no doubt the XG-FULLHD card creates an image that is better than
the previous DVI card...colors are more natural, test patterns are sharper.
Is the card worth it? That would depend on your budget, and what you expect out
of this product. For myself, I say yes it's worth it...the PQ has taken a
step forward, and just looks 'right'. This card IS a step up in all areas of
image reproduction." - KennyG
"The color rendition of the Moome [XG-FULLHD] card is really quite
impressive. The first thing that hit me when going back to the DVI card was
how much better the HDMI card did to create a vividly lifelike image with more
subtle gradients. (See
XG-FULLHD vs HDfury screenshots)" - JArseneau
"... it is a true work of art from Moome, amazing in every way possible
... with the new NEC XG HDMI Moome card and my DVDO VP50pro video processor
outputting 4:2:2 YPbPr HDMI I have a image that has improved in nearly every
manner (See
screenshots) ... the crispness of the image has improved a lot as well, the
image is naturally sharper vs the older DVI card which looks slightly edgy
in comparison ... color resolution and naturalness has improved so much it is
unbelievable, I am so thankful to be able to get this card for my XG, it was
worth every penny and more! I just can't get over home much of a
improvement this card really is, the best way to describe it is like someone
took a hold of a knob on your system labelled bandwidth and cranked it out the
roof, the natural crispness and smoothness of the image is amazing, the
contrast ratio aspects of the image may be the biggest improvement of all. I am
now going to be giddy every time I sit down to do reviews and watch films. Thank
You Moome! You are a true master sir!" - Gary (Home Theater Forum
Software and Hardware reviewer)
"Thanks Moome for a great product and speedy customer
service! What a damned nice guy!" - Tacky

CalMAN is the world's most flexible, powerful, and easy to use software tool for
greyscale & colour calibration! It is the only calibration package that grows
with you! The easy to follow wizards in the "Basic" mode are perfect for novice
users just starting out while the flexibility of the "Design" mode gives
professionals the control they need.
We've worked out an exclusive deal for our members to bring you
CalMAN and these professional quality meters at
prices lower than what everyone else pays anywhere on the internet! Buy direct
at prices lower even than buying off the official CalMAN website!
What is CalMAN?
CalMAN is color calibration software for the calibration of high definition
televisions and other video displays.
Does your high definition television set look
"wrong? Do people's skin tones look sunburned or
vaguely greenish? Are details hard to see in dark
scenes? Do you have trouble seeing details in bright
scenes, especially ones in involving things like
snow? If you answered "yes" to any of the above,
then chances are that your HDTV is in need of a
calibration and CalMAN can help! It provides
everything you need for home theater calibration:
- It has the powerful features needed by
professional display calibrators.
- It has simple, easy-to-use wizards that
walk you step by step through the entire process of making your HDTV display
accurate color, even if you have never attempted to calibrate a video
display before.
Why use CalMAN instead of the various free solutions available?
There are many reasons why it makes sense for notice to expert users alike to
use CalMAN instead of the various free solutions available:
- Even with a copy of our
popular
Greyscale &
Colour Calibration for Dummies guide in front of you, calibrating a display for the first time can be daunting. CalMAN has step-by-step
wizards to lead a complete novice through the process. At each step, there
are detailed instructions on your screen telling you exactly what to do now.
If you want, you can stop and read a whole tutorial on the underlying
theory, but you don’t have to. You just push the buttons the wizard tells
you to push. Think of CalMAN as an interactive version of our
Greyscale &
Colour Calibration for Dummies guide taken to a much higher level.
Everything is tailored to your exact setup and needs as you step through the
calibration.
- SpectraCal are an OEM of X-rite
and therefore have access to a much lower interface in the EyeOne Display 2
/ LT / Pro sensors than other software (such as ColorHCFR). CalMAN can therefore
properly support Plasma with all meters. Unlike other software, CalMAN
also supports all meters in contact, non-contact, and direct modes.
- A great deal of work has gone into making visual controls that let you steer by what you see. A good example is the
Bullseye Color chart (seen on the right). You don’t have to understand how the Color
Decoder in your display works to set it using CalMAN. All you have to do is get the dot into the
bulls-eye. If you tweak a control and the dot moves further away from the
center, tweak the control the other way.
- CalMAN automates the process for you. If
you’ve ever watched someone calibrate their TV for the first time, one
hassle they have is running back and forth to advance the DVD to the next
pattern, start a read on their meter, etc. In CalMAN (particularly if you’re
using the free CalMAN pattern generator), we do it all for you. You click
your mouse on the control button,
and CalMAN displays the pattern and performs the read, or the whole sequence
of reads, or a continuous read so you can watch your results change as you
adjust the display.
- CalMAN is accurate and reliable. It
is the same software that many of the pros use. You could call in a professional calibrator
and there's a good chance that he’d be using CalMAN and going through the same steps you go through.
- If you continue your interest in
calibration, you won’t outgrow CalMAN. We have seen many users who start off
calibrating one TV in their basement, and pretty soon they’re over at their
friend’s house, and then they’re thinking about going into the business.
CalMAN supports everything from the least expensive Spyder meters to the highest
of the high end. And the software is designed to help you along the way. It
adapts as your skills improve, and its teaching materials help you learn.
Trial version
CalMAN is available for free evaluation.

Professional Quality
Meters
The authors of
CalMAN also offer three high-end meters from
X-Rite for
video display calibration sold directly under
licence by the manufacturer at exclusive
CurtPalme.com reduced prices (lower than you'll find
elsewhere!). All three pair extremely well with
CalMAN as the authors are an OEM of X-rite so
they have access to a much lower interface with
X-Rite meters (including the
EyeOne Display 2 / LT). This means that they are
able to get
more out of the meter than any other calibration software!
|
The EyeOne Pro
The EyeOne
Pro is an excellent meter for all uses. In
addition to its superb accuracy – the EyeOne
is as accurate as most meters selling for
thousands of dollars – it is the most
versatile meter available anywhere. No
matter what kind of display you are
calibrating – CRT, plasma, LCD, front
projector, rear projector – you can
calibrate it effectively with the EyeOne
Pro.
If you own only one meter, it should
probably be an EyeOne Pro. If you own more
than one meter, one of them should be an
EyeOne Pro. It is hands down the number one
meter choice of professional calibrators.

The Chroma 5
The Chroma 5 is the big brother to the
X-Rite EyeOne Display 2/LT that we feature
in our
Greyscale &
Colour Calibration for Dummies guide. The main advantage the
Chroma 5 has over the Display 2/LT is that
the sensors are temperature compensated, so
the Chroma 5 is more accurate with changing
room temperatures. The Chroma5 goes lower
and can be calibrated to tighter standards.
Like the EyeOne Pro, but unlike the EyeOne
Display 2/LT, the Chroma 5 can be National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
certified.

The Hubble
The Hubble is an astonishingly good
non-contact meter. It is unsurpassed for
calibrating light-controlled front projected
displays. You can point the Hubble at a
screen all the way across the room and use
the Hubble's laser tracking to zero in on
the area you want to calibrate. The Hubble
has an impressively narrow field of view (5
degrees – which corresponds to a 6" target
all the way across the room).
If you are a professional calibrator, the
Hubble gives you capabilities that were
formerly attainable only with gear costing
ten times as much or more.

chassis only. Mint, mint mint, no tube
wear whatsoever. A great case, 100%
perfect. HFQ-900 lenses Black case.
$11,000.00

simulation lab. Hour count is 3500 and

these tubes are as good as new. Zero

case color. HFQ-900 lenses. $10,000.00
These prices are lower than I’ve seen
advertised before for 909 projectors,
especially with no tube wear. Grab them
while you can!

shape. GT 17 high resolution lenses are
installed on this one. $6500.00
