Gotta ask...what's different about one of these vs a 909/Cine 9? I know they're the same chassis, but what's actually different between the Barco and the Runco versions?

It seems that there is still a market in Asia for CRT

Wow 2 cans plastic primer and two cans black paint $40 equity in your investment $10 000!!
BUT being Runco they didn't even spring for the primer. Mine flaked off easy on the 900 I have here. So $20 paint = $10 000!!

That worked for and against them. Runco did typically supply 'white glove' treatment to their customers, so yes, you were buying a tricked out Porsche, hand delivered, blah blah, but at a premium. Once they got into digitals, there were any number of issues, as in putting an NEC projector into a larger Runco metal box, which caused the sets to overheat. Often.
Also, I heard.via the internet.. that Planar has now killed Runco. The reasoning is that the future is in flat screens, and not projectors. That's not really a surprise, it seems whenever a company is bought out, it's a bad business move. Many decent companies have been killed by being purchased. The latest is Rane, bought by Numark, and it's a disaster for the pro sound guys. Will be interesting to see what Samsung does with Harman. My guess is that the consumer and pro audio stuff will suffer long term.

It's interesting.. I don't know numbers, but I'm sure that Runco sold far more projectors than they did flat panels. I always thought that Planar wanted that business to expand on their flat panels.
If I remember correctly, Sam sold it for $36 million, and I'm pretty sure that Planar wouldn't have seen that in return sales, but I could be wrong.

I think that projectors will continue to take the high ground because HUGE flat screens are horribly expensive and will remain so for a long time to come.
I have never heard of a flat screen that was larger than 120 inches diagonal and that one has a six figure price tag.
I'm concerned that you sold the 1200 to China. History suggests that the Chinese will make copies of it and sell them at wal-mart
for 50 dollars each which sounds great but they'll break in six weeks.
