I will add a vote for the Samsung 3600. Nice player, very fast, lots of features.

I will subtract one vote for the LG 390. Started ok but ended up not working as advertised. Spotty wireless function. Slower loading then 3600 I believe.

For us less technically inclined. . . I have a 10 year old 73" Mits RPTV finally getting HD via cable STB with HD Fury III (great product!). I am thrilled with the results/picture after set calibration, and now it's time to add BR. With 1080i will I see any difference between Oppo 83, PS3, or even something as mundane as Samsung BD6900? The latter comes into play with 3D capability once the Mits finally goes and is replaced. Do the Oppo or PS3 do 3D as well? Thx

I would go find yourself a $99 BD player and be done with it.

Don't look like there is a lot happening here, but ill post my experience anyway.

I have had some different BD players, and ill list them as i wanted to rank them.

1 Oppo 83
2 Oppo 93
3 Oppo 95
4 Sony 5000ES
5 Denon 4010
6 Denon 3800

I had the Pioneer LX 91 for a short time, but prefered the Sony 5000 at the time, dont know how it would do in my system today.

Reason for putting the Oppo 83 top of the list is PQ it beats up anything else i seen so far, The new oppo models 93 95 and Cambridge 651/ 751, whos all the same exept for analog sound output. They look artificial.. like a hard synthetic look to the pic compared to the old Oppo 83.

Then i have to admit i never consider 3D.
My reason to rank the Oppo 93 higher than the 95 is that the sound of the 95 is hard and anoying, and it got a noisy ventilator.
My Oppo 83 is without cover, the ventilator unplugged, and the analog audioboard trown away.

The Denon machines ar terible in my world.. Slow terible sound and not posible to do 4:2:2 output.
Its not that i dont like any denon machine, im using DVD A1XVA for DVD outputting 1080i 4:2:2 into my DVDO VP50 and there outputting 1080P RGB. Thats the best SD i seen so far.

All are tested on my calibrated JVC X7

Maybe some things will change after getting CRT.. Time will show.

Yup. This thread died a long time ago...

I used to use a PS3, now a PS4. Others will use an Oppo blu-ray player. If you're only using it as a digital transport (as I do) I frankly don't think there's any difference.
