I have a G90, an I have seen the Pearl and the Ruby... where as I will admit they have come a long way they have a long way to go as far as contrast to catch the 9" let alone a G90.

If a tree fell in the forest, would there be a sound made if there was no one around when it fell?

Better still, if a projector had a convergence problem that could not be corrected, would that problem exist if no one noticed it?

LOL, I think the Ruby is finsihed. As in stick a fork, in it's done. Laughing We'll have to see if JVC has produced anything worth mentioning with their RS1?

I've seen a Ruby, and the convergence was A LOT better than that. Gees you do roll the dice though...my mate's first unit was returned due to bad convergence.

The only thing it couldn't do was black.

I check the avs for sale section to determine the quality of digitals. There are WAYYYYY too many Sony products in their for sale section that are 'just released'.

The glory days for the new JVC are about 60 days. Then wait for the 'when I first bought it, I thought it was great, but now I notice ..XXXXX......'

Doug,
Now that is funny. If the person had the money for a Ruby, then why didn't they spend the money on an XG135LC?

Well, if you want an XG135LC...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180228750164&ssPageName=ADME:B:DBS:US:1123

Not sure what the single bidder put in for his max, though. It may pop up a bit by the end. Then again, given that a minty Runco version Barco 909 just went for $1500...

Oddly, after all the CRT guys saying that digitals suck because the prices drop and something new comes along, I'm beginning to think that the $300 I paid for my 808s was too much... Rolling Eyes

THere's been more than one $27K Qualia dying recently in the high end of the avs forum. I happen to have the s/manual, apparently it's not available in the US.Smile

Sony wants $1500 to repair the power supply as per one post on the avsforum. I figure I can do it for under $500, the catch is, I don't have a working test chassis here..

Yeah, and given that he SAYS the pots are all screwed... it could very well be a 150lb paperweight unless you send it out to Doug the NECromancer for an exorcism.

Gary, did you come up with that one? It's great!

I was wondering if this thread would ever come back to life... Very Happy
that 135lc might be a paperweight, but if I was anywhere close to Boston I would be all over it.

The later VPL-VW60 and VW200s are significant improvements on the VW50 and 100.

I'm using a VW60 now. When I first got the VW200 and VW60 I didn't think there was much difference between them - but after a full couple of days, the CR increases can really be seen.

They are really a step up - and the Pearl and Ruby weren't that bad.

As much as I hate to say it, digital is catching up.

I do hate buying new lamps .. although I've found a place that sells the actual Xenon and UHP lamps (respectively) for 1/3 of the price of the whole lamp/housing package. It does take an hour or so to change them over yourself though.

That makes a lot more sense. I can buy xenon lamps for my Saab for about $20, and those are rated for a lot more lumens and operate for years under incredibly challenging conditions of temperature and vibration. Why should a finicky xenon lamp for a projector cost 10-20 times more?

The DIY guys have been using $40 lamps for years on their home made projector's. I never understood why the big companies wanted $400+ to do the same thing. I guess it's the razor blade syndrome.

Chris Bigos.

I'm jealous of MistaGreg and that $500 XG LC he bought. Was the seller anyone we know?

I have the parts to fix that Fd. Mine was doing that due to a strained connector on a ribbon cable from the def board to HV board. It could be that simple (or it could be a HV board). Either way I could fix it.

Wish it was for sale here.
