Hi all, I remember you guys talking about a bluray player that has 7.1 analog audio outputs. Which models are they and anyone own them yet? If so what are the pluses/minuses?
Thanks AR

Just picked one up. Only have about 4 movies through it, but the image is nothing short of jaw dropping compared to most other sources available. So far, it has worked flawlessly.

How much is the Samsung BD-UP5000 going for? Or maybe I shouldn't ask.
Any others? How about any with 5.1?

Does anyone have the Samsung with the new updated firmware? I'm wondering if they have fixed any of the issues with this player yet?
Oh yeah and while I'm thinking about it, will the PS/3 output 5.1 analog at all? Is there a cable for the PS/3 that will allow you to do that? Forgive my ignorance but I'm a PC gamer.

If I could veer this OT for a sec, when would anyone want to use multichannel out on a player? My Panny S97 has them and I played with it a bit to my Onkyo rcvr but I didn't really notice a difference compared to toslink. (Unless I didn't set up multichannel correctly in the player setup menu).
Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
Greg

When your processor won't process the newer codecs, such as TrueHD and DTS-HD.

Ahhhhhhhhh!!! Gotchya. Thanks Moose! I'll start another thread to ask a few more questions concerning this.
Sorry for the hijack AR. The question just popped into my head while reading the thread. (WTF...now I've become Dr. Seuss).

That's ok Greg. I'm the King of off topic.
But yes please do start another thread. That's one more for me to post in
This player won't be for me ( although I DO own a pre-amp with 5.1 inputs ) It's for a new forum member that want's to add HD disk to his 1272. We're looking for the easiest solution and a stand alone with 5.1 out's, a Moome card for the PJ and a 30-40' HDMI cable seem to fit the bill nicely.
I've linked him to this post and to the pre-order page for the next batch of Moome IFB cards.
Now it's a matter of figuring out which one of these stand alones sucks the least.
EDIT: spelling

This is the crux of the whole go AVR vs going separates. I've learned the lesson and will not consider an AVR solution again. I'd rather just replace a pre-pro and but an updated processor on the cheap than have to pay several hundreds of dollars more for a player capable of by-passing a system limitation.
Then again, my getting a BD player for $279 may not have saved me all that much compared to what some are getting players for with multichannel analog output.

At least the AVR manufacture (Yamaha in this case ) had the for site to add the 5.1 inputs, making future upgradability an option.

Maybe I should keep more up on the various models. Is there a Blu-Ray player that a.) has multi-channel analog outputs - 7.1 preferred, 5.1 ok b.) profile 1.1 c.) is updateable d.) cost $500 or less?
Probably not.
Is not being able to decode TrueHD and DTS-HD that big a deal? I was going to go with a PS3 - in fact, I've already ordered the remote.

I Bought a PS3 just yesterday. Then I read a rumor that the 40GB version, the one I got, will be reduced to $299 on Jan 28 and the 80GB version will be discontinued. If true, I will either get a refund of $100 on a price guarantee or I will return it and then rebuy it at the new price. So I will wait until the rumor is verified before I open it.
