|
|
I am building a new main rig with my HTPC to be run on the same platform streamed to xbox360's. It will be mainly for editing HDV. I would like it to be quad core capable for a future upgrade. here are the ocmponents thus far. I may eventually get a blu-ray or hd-dvd drive also.

Looks good to me. Should make a good machine to edit HDV with. Don't forget a nice Barracuda SATA drive (assuming you don't have one sitting around already).
Man, I've got the 2.33 Core 2 Duo chip in my office MacBook Pro... I can't believe how fast the thing is compared to some of my older machines. It makes my old dual G4's and even fast P4's seem like such a pooch by comparison.
What HDV camera are you shooting, and what NLE software are you using/planning to use? I'm a cross-platform guy for the most part, but work primarily on the Mac - I love Final Cut Pro. I used Premiere Pro last summer to cut a client's HDV project and it was a pretty miserable experience - I was pretty spoiled on the Mac. There were some things I liked, but it was NOT trivial to get everything installed and working correctly.

Thanks for commenting.
I have purchased Ulead Studio 11+ and have only used the trial version because I am waiting to install it on the new system. Seems pretty user friendly. I am an amateur at this editing thus far. I may eventually outgrow it.
I am using an HV20 to capture the HDV. Pretty nice and fun so far.
With this sweet deal on the xbox add-on I may have an extra drive sooner than I thought!
I wasn't sure about the motherboard, or if the PSU was large enough.
I heard that the P35 chipset was best for the quad cores.

Well finally sold my other PC that was sitting around so I jumped on ordering this rig from Newegg. I changed the mobo and added a few accessories as well as another HDD. It got quite a bit bloated but I feel that it was a good purchase for what I was getting.

Hopefully I don't need to OC it too much to be smooth enough for some HDV editing. I can't decide if I want to keep my add-on drive for this PC or try to sell it to my sister for her computer I just built her. I suppose it would be a good way for me to recoup some of my bloated costs.

Hey Greg, Iam doing the same thing with my new rig and with the same editing software. I went with a little higer priced setup but basicaly similar non the less. GA-P35 Ds3R ,GA-8600GT, and the new combo drive. We should keep in touch and compare notes when we are both up and running with the editing. I am first getting this unit working to display and play HD, BD, properly on my CRT PJ then I will install the editing software and start working on my projects.

Received all the components today and got 'er all put together. I will wait until tomorrow until I install vista ultimate. Don't have the patience or strength as I am recovering from a nasty viral infection this week.
yuck.
All looks very nice though. I did power it up and got nervous that the cpu fan did not spin but then remembered that it has a pwm built in to control temperature. Sure enough...it started to spin slowly in short time.
