Anyone got a hdfury diva and tried hdr on there crt projector ??
Was going to order one but don’t know what to set the primary colours too
As apparently that needs to be done for Dolby vision and hdr excited about the idea
It can downscaling 4K to 1080p apparently

CRT projectors can't do HDR (as they can't do Rec.2020). Dolby Vision uses ITU-R Rec. 2020 or 2100 for the wide-gamut color space while HDR10 uses the Rec. 2020 color space. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-dynamic-range_video#Standards

Read my post here for more: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=486476#486476

It's way too wide to consider doing on CRT.

Nice post so a colour filtered barco 909 can do srgb?
The interesting thing for the fury diva is apparently it can map
Too what ever colour your device can do by putting in the
Coordinate of the primary’s ?
Or would this result in it being converted to plain SDR
Same as if played through Apple TV ?

I am curious as I tried Apple TV’s back to the future 4K
And ps5 Apple TV app and then ps5 UHD disk
And the uhd was more saturated possibly too much
Looked unnatural so was thinking there could be a balance

I haven’t been happy with increased saturation setting on
My dvdo vp50pro as dosnt seem to look right
And was already very happy with Apple TV then I noticed the
Difference when I tried uhd disk

I have no idea or answer to any of these questions.

All I can say is that CRT does Rec.601 (SDTV) as that's what CRT was designed to do, and it can also do Rec.709 (HDTV) reasonably well in most models given that 709 is really close to 601.

Beyond that, I don't recommend wasting your time and money. You're trying to make CRT do something it could never do. I don't understand why you'd want to map 2020 to 601/709. What's the point? Just show in 601 or 709 to begin with. CRT doesn't have the colour space or light output to do HDR.

You're trying to make CRT do something it could never do and can't do. Set the source to something CRT is meant to show and stick with that. My 2 cents.

Yeah I watched some YouTube videos compairing bluray players and streaming
and ordered a Panasonic ub9000 as a result (looked better than oppo)
and figured
Would be worth investigating if there is a better way to convert
Hdr to sdr so thanks for tips after viewing hdr vs sdr videos on
YouTube some hdr looked better (had been converted to sdr odvously)
and I figure if I order a hdfury diva and it didn’t help I can sell it.

Thanks for info about rec709 any idea the exact primary’s they can produce ?
I know these beasts where from a different time but I can’t get the jvc dla I bought to work
(Brought broken) so for now barco 909 is it…

Thanks dan

If you watched an HDR video converted to SDR on an SDR display and it looked better than the same video as original native SDR, then they've changed something and likely mapped incorrectly and/or pumped up colours and/or brightness.

Unless I'm missing something, converting HDR to SDR to watch on an SDR display is kinda like converting FM radio to AM so that you can play FM on an AM radio and expecting it to sound better. That just can't work. You can't get something from nothing. If a display is limited to SDR (like CRT) there's no point. The only reason to map HDR to SDR for showing on an SDR display is if you absolutely have to watch the HDR on that non-HDR display (i.e. you don't have the content in SDR).

Depends on the CRT. Some would have colour filtered c-elements or tinted glycol. See "Step 8.6: Additional hints and tips to achieving more accurate primaries" here for examples/explanation: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10457

To know what they can produce exactly you can measure.

Yeah side note my Panasonic ub9000 came today
Haven’t had much of a chance to test but so far the video
Improvement that I can see is it’s soooo smooth
From Netflix to uhd I had micro stuttering on Apple TV and Sony
Bluray player and so far even still going though the dvdo vp50pro
It’s smooth on the panning shots where it would look like a frame or two
Would be doubled up every second on other devices this looks smooth as
And the build quality is amazing 🤩

The remote is best remote ever back lit heavy and clicks like a mouse

Highly recommend
It does say it’s converting hdr to sdr wonder what if any the hdfury diva will do

The hdfury diva came today set to rec709 and
Dolby vision was just black crush tried profiles 1,2 and 13
All looks way to dark I probably should try harder probably a setting
But my network cable isn’t long enough to adjust things
While plugged in so to the back burner

Looks like you where right kal but curiously got the better of me

Best choice on 4K with CRT is an Oppo 203.

My friends and i use this combination with excellent results.

Oppo 203 directly into the internal Moome card of the Marquee or external Fury II.

In my opinion the best tone mapping available for CRT if you want to go that way.

Thanks yeah oppo players we here very expensive here
It was cheaper to buy a new ub9000 I’ve set it to low lumans projector
And it’s tone mapping is fantastic very noticeable better image than Apple TV
Still going though vp50pro to sharpen it slightly very happy now

Would be interested to see comparisons on crt between bluray players
Wasn’t untill I saw compaired on you tube that I had any idea
It mattered what your bluray players did I thought it would have been
Source direct hdmi … I was wrong

A oppo uhd here on eBay Australia would have been $8,000 for a as new
$2000 used.
Or a older just 1080p bluray one $1,000 or a old 803 $500
So I settled on the Panasonic and I’m very impressed the
Menu system for streaming is terrible and slow but video
Playback is fantastic and was under $1,500

I also used the Pana first but went the Oppo route then.

Another big plus of the Oppo is the HDMI IN port which i feed over my AV receiver output.

All my devices like apple tv, sky,... will be processed over the Oppo incl. HDR to SDR tone mapping.

cheers
