Hello, I recently purchased a Sony G70. It arrived today, and it was advertised as working and and had photos of it being able to turn on. Upon powering it on, it throws Error 10 and Error 36 before turning off. I know error 10 is related to no signal, so I believe 36 is the real issue. I have already checked the polarity switch and the 3 connectors, and have re seated them. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, seems like I have a large paperweight now Laughing

Error 36 per the manual. Maybe try a factory reset, to reset the adjustments to midpoint? I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in.

It shuts off within 2 seconds of hitting the power button, is there any way to reset it when it does this? I only found a factory reset through the settings, which I can’t access. The seller showed it able to be powered on, so I’m worried it was some physical damage in the transportation process.

Thank you Kal, I’ve already read all those threads though. It may be that the vertical board somehow got damaged in shipping, as it was definitely working before it was shipped here. I don’t know where I could get another board, maybe reseating it is worth a shot? Ideally it would be nice to talk to someone who has had experience working on one of these machines before.

Reseating all boards certainly can’t hurt. That’s the first thing I’d try.

Don't discard it. Look for tubes or part it out. Keep some others running.

Sorry for your loss. I hate shipping damage.

AnalogRocks, thank you, I would never waste these rare parts, the machine was otherwise in fully working condition before shipping. I definitely wanna repair it. DanCrt, those tubes would definitely be something I’m interested in. The swap seems pretty complex, I may need to find someone in the Los Angeles area to do it for me. But I would love to trade you whatever for a set of tubes.

Does anyone know if turning it on with these two damaged tubes could have damaged anything else in the projector? It automatically shut off with that error every time I tried to power it on. Dancrt has a set of picture tubes, I’m considering replacing them

We had a tech in Los Angeles names Mark. Haven't seen him around in a while. I'll message him when I can find his user name.

Yeah, if you don't pull the CRT sockets that are super heavy, those necks snap. Found out the hard way. Finding G70 tubes at this point will be brutal. There was a set listed by a former forum member, but I know he sold them a few months ago.

Marc Bischoff (Tinman) in LA is looong out of the CRT business. He won't touch the unit. Swapping tubes isn't hard, the whole assembly pulls out the front of the set, and everything unplugs. Instructions I believe are on the main site.

Agreed. Swapping tubes is real easy on these pj's. I replaced my green tube on the G90. Just be careful not to damage the copper windings on the coils. I imagine if you have to swap over the bellhousings, that could be a hassle for a newbie.

Alright, well it looks like I have a new project. Does anyone know if I potentially busted anything else trying to turn it on with the tubes broken? I’m arranging to buy a set of 3 tubes from dancrt. I looked through the whole guide, and I think I can get it done. Might need some guidance from someone who’s done it before, but I’m excited to get it working.

You could try pulling the neck boards off the two busted tubes and see if the third tube fires up

Oh interesting, so it could fire up with the broken ones disconnected? I need to figure out how to do that

The vertical circuit boards on the back of the tubes. Probably held on with a clamp like my D50's were. Power off the projector and unplug for 2 minutes then have at it.

Should I fully disconnect the tubes? All the cables and the HV line?

So I pulled the two broken tubes out of that back part after undoing the clamp, upon turning on it shuts off immediately with error 21. The manual says thats abnormality in the 115v (hv) line. I didn’t disconnect anything else, so the tubes are still plugged into the HV line and all those connectors. Seems another forum post said that error happens when a tube is cracked. Regardless, I have to research more and hope these replacement tubes work Smile otherwise I’ll be in the market for a G90 or a Barco 909
