I was so looking forward to both these movies and was flat out disappointed with them both.

Gemini Man had everything going for it but remarkably IMHO had terrible directing, bad acting, bad lines, and a crappy plot. Blob all that on top of the 60Hz that it was filmed in and it wound up feeling like I was watching a bad made for TV movie. The only redeeming quality of the film is its extreme video clarity from said 60Hz, but just so bad.

I didn't have much hope for Dark Fate, but I had faith. Well. faith be gone, the movie was just bad. Again directing was awful, lines were poorly written, and Linda Hamilton's execution of her terribly written lines was bad as well. The best part for her was when she shot up the terminator the first time and said, "he'll be back." Arnold was actually the only redeeming quality in this one. He was wooden, but he was playing a terminator and I laughed out loud on several of his lines. I actually found myself laughing out loud on many parts that weren't supposed to be funny at all.

Oh well. I've seen some other good ones lately.

Best,
craigr

Agreed on both counts.

Gemini Man also had the whole Will Smith CGI age removal applied which didn't look that convincing either. Dark Fate I was also hoping would be OK, but it wasn't and all the review points you mention are valid.

Of the two movies I'd say Gemini Man was bad, but Dark Fate was even worse.

Au contrare. Rotten Tomatoes has Gemini Man at 26% and SPLAT, while Termination is 70% and gets lots of positive reviews from the pro's and super reviewers. I find the RT ratings to be quite reliable 95% of the time.

Ang Lee seems to have gone off the boil. I'll give GM a miss but watch Terminator

Thanks, I would skip both, but I almost feel obligated to watch Terminator.

What about the video quality on Gemini? I know Kris Deering talks about Megladon having some good shots.

I spent three days at Kris's house last week and brought my pre-release copy of Gemini Man so he could see it. I had honestly thought a lot of the movie was shot in front of a green screen because it was just so darn crystal clear, but Kris corrected me and told me it was actually shot that way and that the 60Hz leaded well to the clarity of the image. So yeah, it looks really good video quality wise.

Funny thing is that I do wonder if the 60Hz could have mad the acting seem worse than it was. It was not movie like at all so there was not really any suspension of disbelief. Perhaps if it was shot at 24Hz it might not have been so bad, or at least as bad.

Another thing that bugged me about GM was that the night scenes were shot in "day for night" and that never looks right to me. Yes you get more dark detail, but that's because it wasn't dark when it was shot. You can easily spot the glowing around boarders in the movie too.

Of the two, I liked Terminator much better. I did also totally feel obligated to watch terminator, but was simply disappointing that it wasn't at all good. I love the Terminator series and they really wouldn't have had to do much to make me at least say, "yeah that was all right." But, it fell flat.

Best,
craigr

If you want to see some serious 60Hz clarity look at the JVC demo disc if you get a chance. It's absolutely spellbinding in color and clarity. It makes full use of the DCI-P3 color space almost to the point of abuse... but it's amazing. It'll even make a Sony sing Razz

And winning prizes. The soundtrack is also great. Its less creepy, more character study and social commentary on interaction between the haves and have nots. I'll watch it again sometime.

Well, not new anymore but I finally watch Annihilation a few months back. That is an AMAZING movie. It’s under appreciated on IMDB with like a 6.7 score. One of the best movies I have ever seen.

Ford vs Ferrari was quite good though I liked it a bit less than the masses.

The Greatest Showman was one I was putting off forever because I tend to like live musicals, but not movies. Freaking loved it and have watched it three times in the last two months.

I’ll get back with more when I look at my list.

green book was killer, i love Vigo movies . Bohemian Rhapsody was also good, and I'm not even a true fan of their music (it was ok). Bird box, not bad for a made-for-Netflix movie, Sandra is fun to watch too

Never heard of Salyut 7 but RT gave it 100% critics and 87% audience thumbs up, WOW. Where did you find it? Netflix as usual in their infinite lameness does not show it Watch on Prime , woohooh Thumbs Up

Burning- again 95%-82% , also on Prime

Wolf's call- 91%-71% actually on Netlix, wow!

Venom, generally i hate Superhero crap, and the critics agree 29%-80%

They liked Thor Ragnadonk though 93% -87%

Alita Battle Angel- have to draw the line here Craig, girl power crap + super-hero crap = way too much
Wink

thanks for the tips though, i know what I'm doing this weekend.

Don't know if you care, but on Netflix Wolf's Call is only available in SDR. I bought the UHDBD from Amazon.de It may be the same for Salyut 7... it's from Russia with love Wink Got that in UHDBD from Amazon.de as well.

Thor Ragnadonk is funny and the casting is good. I mean Tessa Thompson, come on!

Venom is highly unusual. I'm really not into super hero movies either... He's supposed to be a bad guy right? I liked it.

Actually one everybody should see is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That is truly original and exceptional! And no, your TV is not broken and the movie is not trying to be 3D, it just supposed to looks that way Wink

Alita Battle Angel I went in with lowered expectations so that helped. I also really enjoy Christoph Waltz so... not the best movie, but entertaining for me.
