Is anyone using a NAS system to store their BR movies and for playback on CRT, as well as providing network to other displays and an audio system around the house? Basically an AV hub solution. How do the various options compare to playing BR on a regular BR player like the Oppo 105D? My biggest concern is if there is jitter and momentary hesitations due to buffering.

This is the one I'm considering along with a couple of WD Red 6TB hard drives.

I build my own with linux/ZFS. Alot of people use Freenas or Qnaps, etc. Just make sure whatever you do, is to not get a nas that uses a potato for a cpu.

Use unRAID and build your own Hayden. It's much better.

Also buy either 8, 10, 12, or 14 TB external Western Digital drives and shuck them. They are virtually identical to RED's at less than half the price.

Here is the first one I built Hayden:

This is the second one:

I'm still using that case, but much has changed... Current specs are below.

Quote:

unRaid 6.8.0-rc7 Pro

Array: 136TB - 19x WD80Exxx Helium RED's (dual parity), 1x Samsung SSD 840 PRO, 1x WD100Exxx Helium RED cache drive. 2x WD80Exxx cold spares.

SAS Controllers: 2x HP 220 crossflashed to LSI9207-IT • LAN: Dual Intel 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation (LACP).

Supermicro X10SLL-F • Xeon® E3-1285Lv4@3.4GHz • Micron 4x8 GB PC3L-12800E ECC • Seasonic FOCUS Plus SSR-750FX • 4x Norco SS-500 Pods in Xigmatek Elysium

It's addictive. I use the current machine to run dockers and do all sorts of tasks.
