Good morning and happy holidays!

Like in the audio thread, I wanted to pick some brains about the projector I'm going to install in my brother-in-law's theater.

So a couple of things about him and his family:

1. Not videophiles but can appreciate quality
2. Want a big image

A couple of things about the theater:
1. Projection wall is huge
2. Distance from wall is not - I think that you could get two rows - one 12' ft from the wall and one 15' from the wall. I'd have to ask him for measurements, but he's out of town now.
3. Theater room can be completely blacked out, and lights are on a dimmer switch.

We were going to do a 120-inch Vapex screen. I originally was going to try and procure a B-stock JVC projector, but on second thought, I'm thinking that that may be "too much" projector for them. So I was thinking about getting a Sony HW45ES instead.

One thing I'm a little hesitant on though, is - will 1080p be enough for 120 inches at our viewing distance? And since it has no manual iris, I'm afraid that even at 120 inches, it may be too bright in blackout conditions. The wall itself allows for an even bigger projected image, but then that means even bigger 1080p pixels.

How much do B-stock JVC projectors run usually? Are they close to the $1500-$1700 price range I see for the Sony?

EDIT: Nevermind, I double-checked Spanky's link to a thread a while back on B-stocks and prices. I saw that at the time $2299 for an RS-400. I think that extra $600 would be easily worth it to them, as the RS-400 would easily spank the HW45-ES.

Yeah the RS400 is a much better pj than the Sony. Unfortunately b-stock stock fluctuates. You would have to see what AVScience has.

If you need some brightness, then you might want to look at some of the Epsons as well. They had the 4050 at Cedia and it looked pretty good for the price. Not sure what the difference is between the 4010, but the 4010 is on sale right now.
