Specifically the 203 and then buying either the internal or external hardware mods to make it region free.

Thoughts?

I have always been an "Oppo guy" but this time around when I was checking out and trying 4K players early on in the game because of the lack of extra apps(Netflix, Youtube etc.) and the region free feature, I ultimately gravitated to and purchased the Panasonic UB900. It has been out for awhile but with all the updates it is a top flight performer and many reviewers have positioned it pretty much on par with the Oppo. A couple of reviewers have stated they thought the chroma upsampling (BD video>4K) and its HDR performance was even a little superior to the Oppo, especially when downconverting HDR video discs to SDR. It has very good build quality, very quiet and loads quite fast. It has region free capability on BD Video but not DVD. It features HDR processing but not Dolby Vision. At this stage, only the Oppo models have both.

They have had a substantial price drop in recent months which make it pretty comparable to the 203 in price. As an alternative, it might be worthwhile checking it out, it could save you some money on the need for the extra hardware mods.
