Welp I received a 66 code on the back of my G90, the G90 that I've been struggling with different problems since I bought it. I've upgraded to a JVC X970R and WOW .... I had the G90 finally configured nicely and this thing blows it out of the water!!! To give you an idea of the quality I have a Pioneer Kuro upstairs that I've been watching for the last 10 years. This projector is as good if anything slightly better than the picture quality of the Kuro ..... Even as of writing this I still can't get over the picture quality! Best decision I ever made to ditch the g90 for the JVC

Anyways I have a g90 whose tubes are fresh and boards etc .... if someone wants the whole thing or piece meal it just let me know. You can have it for cheap cheap cheap!!!

Big thanks to this forum for all your help with this g90!

Congrats on the JVC X970R! That's a nice projector! (I'm a few generations behind with my RS56 but am still wowed by the image).

Good luck on the G90 parts sale.

Kal

Funny I just sold my Sony uhd tv for a kuro and this is much better and huge wow factor. However my barco 909 is still better Smile

But I mean they do that those new screens. They give you a wow untill you find out about the eye strain and possible damage of blue leds and you see a good calibrated dark scen on crt or plasma kuro.

Most of my viewing is still on a Kuro KRP-600M. Love the image quality. Have to say with the right material my calibrated G90 running 1080/72 with MP's BA board mods is not very far behind. No intentions of giving up the G90 anytime soon.

From what I know in the past these digital projectors use gamma tricks to make the blacks and that always resulted in banding in black scenes. Do not know if they finally solved that problem but yesterday I watched some darkscenes very deep and dark and no banding that make me happy Smile

By the way the darbee processing in the oppo is something I do use as it sharpens a little more when the hardware is not capable of being modded into faster response. Darbee does really make the testimages of 1 on 1 smpte a little better and is very visible.

I had the last generation highest quality Kuro they ever made the 111fd. It has fared me very well and I won't be getting rid of it until it eventually kicks the bucket. The quality of that TV was better than the g90 for sure. Not banging on CRTs with my previous statement all i'm saying is I had a sony g90 setup looking real nice, or what I thought was real nice, then without changing any other component or source material or resolution (kept it at 1080p with the same content) was viewing the same material and was SHOCKED at how much better it was .... bottom line if you have the dollars these new JVCs in a dedicated room is worth EVERY PENNY and the setup was like 45 seconds not 5-8 hours. Literally 45 seconds ... it was a joke.

That being said if you don't have the dollars to spend CRT is still the king in the $2500 price range, IF you are willing to put in the required time and effort to get it there, but I guess that goes without saying lol.

So what do you want for the tubes? My green and blue have very slight wear patterns, yours are mint/no wear?

Congrats on the new JVC. They are nice pjs.

JVC announced the CMD fix at Cedia. It shows banding with frame interpolation turned on. If you don't use it, then it isn't an issue. You might still want to get the fix for resale value in the future.

The new models are basically a minor update of the current line up. You aren't missing anything with this model.

Hi one question. Does somebody know if the Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX5090H is the same as the 111fd? Perhaps something with an European name? I can not seem to find this information.

After some more reading it seems the KRP-500A or M is the same picture quality as the 111fd roughly.

The KRP-500M(A) had a rather obvious red push that couldn't be dialed out which had a neg impact on CR. Luckily the 600M (60" version) doesn't suffer the same design issue and has been a much better performer than my previous 500M.

Thanks! By the way do you know the maximum number of hours a Kuro can have and still produce a nice picture? I have heard 60000 hours is the life span. Is that true?

I bought a KRP-600A and now have both the KRP-500A and 600A. One can serve as parts plasma when something breaks down. The 600A has 11000 hours. Its contrast is still perfect as far as I could measure, as new. The blacks are deeper that the 500A. Man this one might be as good in blacks as my Barco 909 CRT!!! Very happy with it for the price I paid Wink Thanks for the advise.

Congrats. I love the image of the KRP-600M and I'm just using the DNice standard cal settings. I chose not to get it professionally ISF calibrated as I like the image so much and didn't want to mess with what I'm seeing. One positive moving to the 60 incher is that I'm a lot more particular now with what I watch on the G90. I get enjoyment watching a lot of content on the plasma panel.
I bought it used locally 18 months ago for $400 and the panel has 8000hrs. The 500M I sold had 3000hrs and the image was a lot more washed out due to the red push.
I'm not sure if there are many parts that are interchangeable between the two chassis. Weak points seem to be PS (the 500M had a crackily PS which was irritating but still worked) and HDMI input board.
I also read that the panels are good for 60000+hrs. I think other components are likely to fail well before you notice any issues with the panel itself.

Just calibrated the 600 and the Pure mode is very accurate. I have never seen a gamma that straight! The colours are very close too, I have colour on +2 to get the best red faces but everything at 0 is ok too. Almost perfect tracking all the way Smile Slight corrections in manual colour temperature (greyscale).

HAve to tell you guys I found a 600A with close to 500 hours. It is as good as new. The former owner got it as a thirteenth month put it on the attic to start a homecinema but was not a tv guy at all. It just stood there. He did not know how to read the hours as it is complicated with the 600A, you have to use a serial cable and an adapter. Than you have to find the commands in the service manual. So he said something like 30 hours and that was a bit to low estimated. I checked the brightness of the panels, the dust in the fans and yes I am convinced! So now I have two 600A for the next 10/20 years of dry desert that are coming Very Happy Also a 500A for parts or for resell. Remember guys " Winter is coming" Very Happy Call me crazy Wink

Winter is coming... so you just turn on the Kuro and no need for the fireplace anymore to feel the warmth (just like with the CRT) LOL
