|
|
Hi all I am Not sure what the problem is with my pj. I have sent this email to curt as well but i thought i should put this on line as others may have experienced the same problem but i have attached a link here, just copy and paste into you internet browser: https://youtu.be/yHyKlxM1GAE to view the video file on you tube so it gives you an idea what it is doing.
In short when i switch the pj on it flashes on and off for about 10 minutes before it the picture comes good and I can see a picture, when it finally gets going it runs fine without a problem it is just getting it going which gives me heart burn.
When it flashes and i have a DVD going, it appears to be lines on the screen flashing on and off and when i have the menu screen on it does the same as you will see in the attached video file . At first i thought it might be something to do with the video sync but it still does it with the Barco emblem screen as well as the internal menu screen, but you will see from the footage what is going on if you have any suggestions it would be much appreciated as it is doing my head in
Thanks
Andy

It'd be helpful if the camera had been held a bit more steady but I'm pretty sure I see that the size of the image is not stable, which is what I would expect if EHT was intermittent. The lower the EHT voltage, the larger the image will be.
Given that Barcos are notorious for EHT/quad issues, I would look at that first.
It may be that this one is starting to fail and will reach total failure shortly.
I'm not very experienced with Barcos so this is really a guess.

can it be bad grounding? is there any hiss or noise from some high voltage thing, like the splitter, quad, eht?

The problem is obvious, as illustrated here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69UMdyu30qQ
I've seen this before, although not that bad. The HV splitter is arcing internally most likely. Quads don't do that, at least not that I've seen.
Disconnect the HV leads going to the tubes one at a time, to eliminate the possibility of arcing within the lead, but I don't think that's it.
Don't touch the tip of the HV lead, pull it out of the splitter and touch the chassis with it to short out any HV stored within the tube.

The sync light is flashing on the vertical board. From memory that's the vertical board. Could be a faulty vertical board or switcher.

Thanks for the help curt and everyone I will try what you suggest when I get home from work, if it is the splitter that is OK as I have a spare.

I just had a thought if it was the splitter arcing out inside wouldn't that trigger the little red Led light to flash on and off on the EHT board showing HV problem ?. I have checked this and it isn't flashing or isn't lit up

No, the red LED on the EHT board indicates a shutdown. Once it's triggered, you need to power down the set to reset it.
I don't think it's a V board issue, as the picture is pulsing in all directions, indicating fluctuating HV.

Thanks for the reply Curt I will replace the splitter with the spare I have here and see how we go. Can the old splitter be repaired ? If so what is the cost [/s]

Well to my disappointment i replaced the spliter, what a sh*t of a job when it is mounted to the roof and still no luck. It does exactly the same thing after about 25 minutes of it flashing and me turning it on and off it eventually fires up and when running not a problem. If you leave it more than an hour after switching off you have to go through the same crap again probably because it cools down. I also swapped over the EHT board as i had a good spare one of them. I Don't think it is the Quady as i purchased a brand new one of Curt about 6-8 Months ago and i would be lucky to have watched 50 hrs on it since then. I am now wondering myself if it could be the vertical shift board as suggested by gregstv as the red LED was lit up and only flashed off when the pictured flickered or it would remain on when no picture ? any thoughts in regards to this. I will upload another video to youtube whilst feeding a video source through to the Pj so you can see what it is doing and it does the same if you bring up the internal menus so it isn't a sync issue anyhow i will post a link when it is uploaded any advice appreciated here is the link https://youtu.be/9C0J9JFpx_g

It could also be the EHT board. About all you can do is send me all the pieces to test in my test chassis, as other than board replacement, there's no way to further diagnose a problem like this.

I have replaced the EHT board as I have a spare and still no change, I may be wrong but I have picked up a secondhand vertical shift board out of a working set cheap of eBay.So I will change it out to see if that works, if not I have a spare board lol. I just think it maybe a possibility as early symptoms before it got this bad the picture use to roll on the screen like an old TV set till it warmed up so I think its worth a try I will keep you posted to how it goes

You don't show the CPU LEDs. They are the ones in the lid you open to see the boards you can see them through a slot in the lid.
