Hello Guys,

I do have a broken brand new Eisemann LUG SIM blue tube.

and another brand new one (same make)

that has the neck broken off.

is there any service that would take the good neck and combine it with the bad one?

DHL wouldn't pay , even though it was insured.

Thanks

Michael

No, no company will rebuild that tube for any significant savings over the cost of a new tube.

I know of two companies that MIGHT try to rebuild it but for the cost you might as well get a new tube from them isntead.

Those companies are Lexel and Thomas Electronics.

Do a shipping damage claim and hope the carrier honors it.

HOW TO PACK TUBES:

You need the tube to be in an oversized box, and padded with foam. The foam holding the face end of the tube
should be hard foam, the foam holding the neck of the tube should be a softer grade of foam. All pieces of foam
should be supported and arranged in such a way that it is not possible for you to move the foam out of position.
Each piece should be kept in place with other pieces. You need two inches of space AT THE MINIMUM between
any part of the tube and any part of the box.

The tube must be firmly but gently held in the middle of the box. No rattling allowed. But it must be allowed to
move some in the foam rubber cushioning so as to absorb shocks.

You need more space and padding at the connector end of the tube than at the face end.

By following these rules I've had a zero breakage rate.

This photo shows how I ship up to five tubes safely in one box. SPACE and CUSHIONING, but with allowance
for some tube movement in the foam.

Was this just purchased from Eisemann or from a private individual?

Unfortunately I've had this happen with the odd tube as well, either that I've shipped or that has been shipped to me. The box was badly dropped, no extra packing or double boxing would have protected that electron gun, it's the impact that caused the damage.

As for insurance.. that's why I send USPS. They usually pay the claim without questions as compared to the couriers, but the receiver has to file a claim with the post office for international shipments, and payments can take months. Domestic claims are far simpler to deal with.

it's has been about a year, when the 1st blue tube sent from G.E. broke during transport (neck broken off)
did get a 2nd tube, that get damaged during transport from me to my installer.

hoped to have the one part this still good on the one tube broken off electrode and neck)
to join the tube that has the defective electrode.

if anyone is interested in the two blue SIM tubes, let me know.

They're scrap glass now. Send them to hazmat recycling and forget about them.

Criteria for reusable broken tube parts are stringent, the tube neck has to have broken in the RIGHT location,
the electron gun assembly has to be baked out to remove all moisture absorbed by the barium sulfide cathode
on exposure to the atmosphere, and even if the neck can be reused, the cost to rebuild a tube with it is about
90 percent of the cost of buying a new tube. I don't think anybody is going to go for it.

However, I can offer you a brand new condition blue tube out of my own stock. I can spare one. PM me if interested.

And I guarantee it won't get broken in shipping! I know how to pack tubes for a trip through the gorilla cage.
