I just scored today!!!

Star Wars 1977 Silver Screen Edition v1.5 35mm BD50 1080p AVC PCM 2.0

I am so stoked, I think wife and I are going to watch it tonight! Or some others may come over too.

Quote:
In January (2016), a group online calling themselves Team Negative1, consisting of about five anonymous Star Wars fans, released into the wilds of the internet a digitally restored copy of Star Wars, sourced from a 35mm low-fade release print from some time after the film’s initial release. For those who know where to look, the film is available, in full HD, looking extremely close to what audiences at the time must have seen. Team Negative1 have labelled the restoration, quite appropriately, The Silver Screen Edition. Finally, after all these years, the original, unaltered Star Wars is out there for the public to consume.

So, you'll be making some Sony 'cookies' and distributing them in Girl Scout 'cookie' boxes like a good little 'cookie' monster.

OH! I like "cookies" .

Star Wars is the first movie I remember seeing in the theaters. We were on vacation at the beach (N Myrtle Beach SC). Dad took us to see it. Good times!

So we all watched this the other night and it is really nice. Loads of film grain, but it's real and the restoration is quite good. There are a couple glitches here and there but nothing very distracting.

I love the cigarette burns when they show up. Our next door neighbors is a house full of Blue Man Group performers. They came over and were quite thrilled with the whole experience. We were counting the reals and all looking for the cigarette burns.

It's f*cking great!

Supposedly "Team Negative 1" disbanded shortly after this release because they were overwhelmed by the publicity and attention they got. Obviously what they did is strictly speaking not legal. But supposedly they were (or members still are) working on an even more improved version 2.0 using better equipment to transfer the film. They have also acquired Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. They had said that the restoration of Empire Strikes back is almost ready, but who knows now that they have disbanded.

I did manage to get a BD 25 of Empire Strikes Back that is partially restored by TN1, but was no where near complete. I haven't looked at it yet, but they said the Empire Strikes Back was in much better condition to start with than A New Hope.

I was a bit too young (at least my parents thought so) in 1977 to see the movie, so I had to wait until 1981 when I was a little older. But the flip side was good. My parents took me and some friends to the theater to see the movie for my bday party because we were obviously old enough by then Laughing I guess it was worth it because I still remember the day well.

Fun times,

You probably saw the despecialized edition. This 35mm transfer was only made available a couple months ago in 2016.

I thought some of you might be interested to know that I just got version 1.6 of the Silver Screen Edition of Star Wars. It was released on June 12th 2016 and is said to be the final version. Below is a list of the improvements, but to me the best new feature is the addition of the lossless track from the DeSpecialized Edition, although I had noticed the other errors as well.

Quote:
Changes since v1.5

- Subtitles now correctly sync with video track
- Removed emoticon from THX TN1 bumper
- Letterboxing is now pure black
- Replaced 2 missing lasers in Tantive shootout
- Replaced English Stereo Laserdisc Audio with Hairy Hen's English Stereo track
- Corrected blotches that appeared in a few scenes (e.g. "Mission, What Mission?")
- Corrected warping in the corner of the Sandcrawler shot
- Additional Cleanup to a handful of shots (very minor)
- Darth Lucas Updated the '81 crawl to use Poita's 35mm Starfield

I have both the Despecialized edition and the SSE. As Craig mentions, the SSE was really heavy on the grain from what I remember. The DSE had better audio from what I remember but it's been a while. I'm pretty sure I had version 1.5 and it wasn't 37GB so that should make a noticeable difference to picture and sound I'd think.

I actually made a version of the SSE 1.6 using the 5.1 DTS-HDMA track off the newest Despecialized Edition. To combine the tracks I first used tsmuxer and demuxed the playlist I wanted from the SSE. I grabbed the video, two channel PCM, and English sub streams. I then demuxed the 5.1 track off the Despecialized mkv. After that I just used tsmuxer again to combine the tracks I wanted (SSE video, 5.1 DTS-HDMA, PCM stereo, and English subs). That gave me the best of all worlds with the best sound and video (IMHO). All the audio streams sync perfectly as they are GOUT (George's original unaltered trilogy).

Oh, and the DTS-HDMA 5.1 track is a bit larger than 2 GB (if I'm looking at the right track now).

Thanks jask, but I'm afraid that's the V1.0 that came out back in Feb. I'm looking for the later V1.6 with numerous improvements that was release around June/July.
