So I have this PG6 plus that, when I got it, had a problem with the green being cranked way too high, and the red and blue were barely visible. After doing a rough G2 tweaking (marked start positions obviously), I thought it would be fine. I retubed the set with near pristine tubes, set it up, and after a few hours of on-time, the colours drifted again. Dark parts are too dark, and in general the balance between the three tubes' overall brightness also drifted...

Previously I tried swapping all the video in- and output boards, and even the ribbon cable between the motherboards to see if anything changed, but that produced no change.

What else could cause such a problem? Is it possible that the potted splitter with the screen pots in it is failing? Or could the HV splitter cause such a problem? I thought about it maybe being a power supply issue too, but then it would manifest equally on all tubes wouldn't it?

Thanks for any tips guys!

I haven't had a bad one yet. I'd suspect bad capacitors..

I replaced pretty much everything with recapped, tested, working boards, bar the high voltage hardware and the powersupplies... once it goes, there's no change... I can adjust the g2 pots to get an acceptable pic, but after a few hours the settings drift again...

As the great Doug Baisey told me when I called him as I was starting this CRT adventure, complaining that the G2 settings in the PG sets were a PITA, he said that he knows everything about PG chassis.. except how to set the G2 and color controls. I don't think I have a G2 block here for the PGs any more, but someone here should. Post in the buy/sell section..

I do have one spare set currently tubeless. I'll try swapping it and see where I get with it. I suspect it as the set had mould in odd places... even between layers of the lens assemblies!

HV splitter failure would manifest itself as crackling and the HV bogging down if I'm correct, or is it possible the splitter is not distributing voltage evenly?

Usually they crack and arc like crazy, at least some of the Barcos did. NECs really never had many HV issues overall.

Thanks for the tip, my best bet seems to be the G2 block and the associated wiring/connectors. I'll try and swap it over the weekend.
