So while dealing with the post office breaking a bunch of tubes I got from Curt a few weeks ago (hooray for customs people opening then not repacking stuff...) , I went ahead and bought a second hand Kramer video matrix switcher from the other side of the country via mail...
Well I got it today... This time unopened thankfully!
Anyways, I opened it, plugged it in, switched it on,... and about all that happened was the light inside the switch illuminated... I played around with everything hoping there was a way to activate it or maybe it was set to be turned on by remote... But nada...
I opened the thing up, and found the small switching power supply's fuse blown... I know better then to just replace the fuse of a switching supply, so I pulled it, and sure enough, the FET on the primary side of the transformer is shorted... I am royally pissed, because I deliberately asked the guy if it was functioning properly... I could possibly fix the switching supply, but there's a blown diode that has pretty much unreadable markings (I hate glass diodes... you can never read what's printed on them), and some of the capacitors have the most awkward values you could find (Who the hell uses 270uF caps?...)
I didn't pay too much, just enough to be pissed, and it was COD... so I'm pretty much hosed... For the love of god does someone have a schematic for this thing (KRAMER VP-88), or maybe knows a compatible switching powersupply? It is 5VDC @3A, +15VDC@0.4A and -15VDC@0.3A, and measures 11cmx6cm and is 4cm tall. I have my fingers crossed the rest of the unit works... there were no fuses blown on the output side...
I am having the worst of luck with deals via mail lately...
