No, I don't know that they do.. yet.. but I got into a discussion (not heated!) on a HT Facebook group where someone posted that Samsung has released an Atmos soundbar. I commented that I didn't see the need for yet another format to be bastardized by low end crap, and I didn't want to see WalMart selling these things.

I was definitely in the minority, as the comments flew that it wasn't about the quality of the sound, but the mass marketing of the product, so that more movies would be released with Atmos.

I personally have always wanted high end electronics (and formats) to stay high end. Obviously this isn't the case in recent decades, where it seems that the masses deserve to have everything (just like Olive Garden is high quality Italian food!) Laughing

So I'm curious.. what say you guys?

Not really a soundbar. It's got rear speakers.

The MSRP is $1,599. The big W might sell it for $800 - $1000. Seems a little high for Walmart shoppers.

Here's a few links

I'm all for more Atmos releases. If it takes selling soundbars at Wally World, OK.

Nothing stays high end for ever. Look at air travel. The buses of the skies. Though things seem to down market much quicker than they ever have. Look at 4K.

Yeah, my point exactly. Funny that the car industry seems to be the one area where a Porsche remains a Porsche.. at Porsche prices.

I think most industries (housing, etc) work that way. It's only tech (audio, computers, etc) that rush to the bottom so fast, because the tech keeps getting cheaper and better all the time.

HMMM? What about the 914?

I wanted a 911 at one point. Except the price kept moving out of my reach.

May be one day I can do used Boxster.

I see those around with blown engines and Subaru STi conversions. It's a cheap way to get into a Porch

Fine, but did they sell zillions? No, they didn't, and while other classic Porsches are around, most of the 914s rusted out. Porsche remains a high end car.

I know what you are saying Curt, but I agree with paw and the people who want to get Atmos to the masses. Discs seem to be losing steam in favor of streaming. I just want to see Atmos take hold, because it is a superior format to what we have now. I doubt most people will know the difference between a good full Atmos system and this Samsung hack.

Subaru Turbo boxer motor, out of a Subaru Impreza STi, 300+ HP,

There was one guy I read about got a Convertible Boxster for $9000 and the STi motor/ECM/Wiring for $3000. Viola Porch for "cheap"
Plus the STi stuff is tunable for more horszee.
