I have some contacts at the local university and last week I got an email that they would clear out their Barco 919 projectors.

In 2010 I stumbled upon 5 Marquee 8500's from them and I told them if they ever would upgrade to digital they should mail me and they did Very Happy

So no way I could let this go and now I got the idea to do a blend with two Barco 919's. They have the semu advanced 2 soft edge blending boards and they have the contrast modulation on the RGB driver. So first thing will be to check out how that works.

Well what can I say of these? They came with the HFQ900 so no curved screen. But there was also a set of HD10-R5M so I could do a curved setup with one to try Cool

As you can see on the pictures the green tube is turned 90 degrees but I also have normal tubes that have a little more wear.

The green have fast phosphor pt22 tubes the blue and the red are LUG tubes with almost no wear. The very light wear on the green is a square. So I am thinking if I do a blend I will be projecting a square again 1/2 x 16/9 = 8/9.

Both Barco's will use half the bandwidth but for the gamma to be linear I need 72 Hz. I know that because the Marquee 8500's also had fast phosphor on green and at 72 Hz I remember they where razor sharp and linear in gamma. So worth a try. No bad point at all here. I might even use them for 3d 120 Hz gaming Cool

I think sooner or later I will have to cut out the tubes. I have some spare LUG LC housings left for that. But I wonder why they where used like this? They came from a cube where 3 where rear projecting and one was above front projecting. What was the advantage in only turning green? Original they had normal greens but from the documentation I saw that they replaced these after little wear around 2009. They have around 750 hours since than.

Some pictures!

Contrast modulation on the RGB driver

Soft edge on the controller. Semu advanced 2.

So how to proceed? I will try the Barco soft edge and contrast modulation and I know there is software for the pc and for the mac.

Rotate the green tube first, otherwise you'll be using very little phosphor. You should be able to rotate the green tube 90 degrees, and still use the video amplifier, but the heat sink will be sitting sideways. that's not really an issue, as the mounting clamp holds it in place.

You suck!

Looking forward to your fully documented report of the curved blend built.

And i could think of making some deal with green tubes if you want to.

Ok think you are right.

I am also thinking about trying these green tubes. The wear seams to be big enough for a normal 16/9 but for a blend? I guess these where used with a curved screen.

Yes that is always possible but first I want to see how these pt22 look.

No curves. The HFQ900 are for normal projection luckily.

Getting the 90 degrees tube out the housing and into a new house of an old worn tube is not so easy. There are a few scratches in the new house. Guess I can cover them with the new silicon kit I need to use.

This is the new house.

I will get the silicon kit used in aquaria.

It is impossible to just turn the front as the bellow is glued to it.

Use black etching paint to cover the scratches before you put silicon on.

You just can't do that Case, without distroying the rubber bellow. It's all one molded piece. Changing the whole LC chamber is the only altenative, i'm affraid.

Something like this? This is available close to me.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E-Tech-Self-Etch-Primer-ER00112X6-/351424755359?hash=item51d28c369f:g:cBAAAOSw-vlVn~Tv

I remember Franciscus said he just painted the scratches with the silicon. I think that will hold too?

Ok I am exploring possibilities and I am thinking if the blend works than why not try a tripple blend Very Happy

All three work perfect. Needs some work on the green tubes.

Building a huge hushbox and duplicating the fanboards to get these silent seems mandatory.

Lol Very Happy

This is how I got them all 6!

It is a one time thing as they now only have digital left.

This is where they come from. But they where used in a cube close to this. Not on a curved screen.
