got a customer that wants to buy a set of HD lenses for his Barco 808. He'll make the mounting plates, but for the life of me, I can't remember whether it's the HD 144 or 145s that have the shorter throw than the HD8s.

He can move the projector forward, but not backwards to compensate.

thanks!

HD144 has the shortest throw amongst the mentioned (then HD145 and HD8)

And to give some numbers (lens type - focal length)
HD-145 - 135mm
HD-144 - 127.33mm
HD8B - 140mm
Shortest throw on HD 144, there were algorythms to calculate the picture width,
but i can't remember where to find them.
Regards, Julian

The standard LC lens on XG (the HD18) has rougly similar throw to the HD145. At 100"screen the throw difference between the HD144 and HD 18 is ~13cm.

The HD-18s are slightly less than HD-145s i reckon, my image size has hardly changed since i switched from HD-144s to HD-18s.

There are HD-217s i think that are a short throw LC lens, but they lack secondary focus adjustment.

HFQ900s have a much longer throw than HD-144s, the machine is almost another meter or more back for the same screen size.

Are you sure? As far as I know the throw for all HD10 lenses are the same, the difference lies in the focus range. HD10L lens good for small screens, of course you have to install the projector closer, but the throw ratio stil the same.

You are probably right.
There are a little difference in throw/size ratio between the HD lenses:
HD10L: 1:1,31
HD10 gt17: 1:1,26
HD10: 1:1,26
HD10E: 1:1,25

So the HD10L has a bit shorter throw than the rest.
Anyway if you want a lens that is able to focus at a short distance from the (admiddably small) screen, the HD10L is the only road to go.

Neither will anything else in this thread without mods to the machine.

Thats exactly what i always thought too, not much good for a larger screen.

Good!
HD144/145's require only little supports for the lenses.
HD117's require LC tube's conversion (8" LC housings+ 8" c-elements +diy supports).
HD10's require a heavy mods to the chassis + 9" LC housings + 9" c-elements, it's really another machine.

1:Barco Dipper should tha the shortest LC throw.
2:Hd-117-24 1:1 screen distance/screen width
3: Hd117-12 ~ lens to screen distange divided by 1.1 equals screen width...
4:HD215/214 as above, but 1,2

That's your opinion based on experience with a working 8" AC Barco against a questionable NEC AC XG and incorrect video timings put through an inferior HD Fury 2, my experience with two perfectly working 9" LC Barcos and a very fit NEC LC XG suggests otherwise. If indeed NEC widely released a 9" LC XG, i sure as hell wouldnt bother with an inferior Barco. As good as the image may be, the NEC XG gets extremely close with smaller tubes, in many ways it exceeds the ability of the Cine 9, which means there is no doubt it will do so even more when compared to an 808.

Knowing what one is talking about is irrelevant when it comes to such opinions. But humour me, what is it that makes you believe an 8" Barco is as capable as a perfectly working XG?

Case, a friend of mine has a BG808 converted to LC with HD117 lenses, and I admit it HAS indeed quite comparable picture quality to my XG, even though it has less picture adjustments.
BTW how do you define capability?
For me the only purpose of these machines now to watch movies, that makes impressions, feeleng in me, the projector is just a tool to convey the content, one may be better than the other in technical aspects, but that does not mean it serves better its purpose too!
If an XG makes you angry every time you swhitch on, but a Barco purring like a kitten then the Barco serves the purpose better, no matter how the XG was when it was new 18 years ago...
My relation to my XG also isn't cloudless to say the least, and this is not my first projector, but the newest build, and has the second lowest hours I ever had...
