|
|
Hey Guys !
After 2 months i was able to mount my Barco Graphics 808. (Ceiling Mount)
But after mounting, it doesnīt wanna fire up anymore.
If i power it on, it gives a hissing sound i can see the tube glowing. But nothing on the phospor, after a couple of seconds
the Barco powers itself off. (Tries to restart again for two or three times than falls back into standby)
On Power on the third led (HD) is off....
Strange thing is , before mounting it to the ceiling it worked flawlessly.
Things i tried:
Removed all Boards (checked all pins) and reseated them.
Tested the tubes (Removed Neckboards / G2 Wires and such)
I am quite new to Barcos, so any help would be highly appreciated.
Cheers
Ronald

Check the EHT light(s) on the EHT board. you can see it through the back grille. Chances are it is on. My guess is that you'll have a bad HV splitter or quadrupler.

My guess is youre better off pulling it down and putting up a vastly superior NEC.

@Case
Come on over, with the NEC as Luggage...
Jokes aside, the 808 drives me nuts. It worked flawlessly before mounting it.
As said, EHT led is off while starting the Unit.
Tubes are glowing, but still the weird noise as in the Video..
Very weird, any further suggestions appreciated.

With the set on the ceiling, switch the set back to floor mount setting. See if the image comes back. Power unplugged to the set of course while changing the yoke switches!

Hey Curt !
Thanks for the tip, but still same issue.
Set it back to the table/front setting same issue ;-(
One thing i did notice the spring for the vertical switch is a bit off.
It feels a bit lose and not really going 100% in Position. Hard to explain...

Fix the spring, the SEOS 808s I picked up had a similar problem with the spring I touched the switch on the SEOS 808s and it would come on then switch off. The switch needed pressure on it from the spring to work. I think the contacts need cleaning. Fixing the spring got it going.

@gregstv
Thanks for the suggestion/tip, i fixed the spring today and it switches normally again.
Tried both positions for several times.. still no luck.
As before the third led is off (eht led is off aswell) and the hissing sound (the hissing seems to come from the focus block).
I again reseated every board , checked the pins... everythings visually okay.
Anybody has another suggestion?
Maybe some fuse i might check, i am really clueless.
Strange thing still is that the unit worked flawlessly before for weeks before mounting it.

If your going to keep it for a while I would get some boards from Curt as spares. Hissing is uaslly a high a high voltage leak. If you look at it in the dark you maybe able to see a bluish glow from where it is comming from. Keep your hands out while its on.

Hi,
You can use a small rubber hose (about 30-50cm long, 6-10mm diameter) for locating the sound's source. Put one end to Your ear and hold it where You think the sound is coming from. If You find the loudest point then You have it.
Check all HV connectors thoroughly. Have You checked that the input and outputs at the HV splitter have the right cables connected to them?
Regards,
barclay66

@gregstv @Barclay66
Thanks again for your suggestions..
I found the cause, and itīs all my fault cause i am an stupid idiot.
Went through some threads and noticed i made an stupid error.
I connected the cable from the controller to j3 and not j6.
Sadly i guess i must have fried the controller in some way cause reconnecting it to the right socket didnīt solve it.
And without your old thread Barclay66 i would have probably never found the error.
At the moment i feel so dumb.. normally i check things three times atleast.... ;-(
Will check the Controller tomorrow if i find some dead / fried resistors or similar...
If not i guess i need another controller board ... sucks

Hi,
I don't think that the wrong connection will have fried the controller. If You compare the connectors, placing the cable into J3 instead of J6 will shorten three lines to GND. This isn't nice, but the buffer IC on the controller (U31, 74AC541) should survive this...

I was wrong many times to insert that connector but the controller was never broken.
The issue is certainly elsewhere.

I can confirm that too. In the past, i did connect the controller on my former Cine 8 to J3 by mistake but nothing went burned or broken. The projector just went on and off, trying to boot. I remember getting crazy but after realising and using the right jumper, everything went back to normal.

In the meantime with help from barclay66 (thanks again) i wenīt thru several tries to bring the barco back to life again.
- Checked fuses on Diag/G2 Board and SMPS
- Dissambled the Vertical Deflection Switch and jumpered it (just to be sure)
- Checked all wires and connectors , checked for arcing and similar
- Cleaned all Board contacts , reseated several times.
- Checked the Convergence Boards for loose Connectors and reseated the tray
- Tried each tube "solo" with neckboards/wires removed
Issue still remains, powers up with HTHD Led off after three tries shutsdown (into standby).
Any further suggestions?
I sadly donīt have any spare boards at the moment, but i am in talk with one guy locally who
sells another 808 for an ridicilously high price :-/
Thanks again for any help from you !
Ronald
