Like I said, I was joking. Usually it is the other way around. I see a lot of guys that won't drive two hours to do something. Along the lines of "I would really like to go to that meet, but it is a hour and a half away."
I can't believe you did that Steve. Texas is bigger than most of the countries in Europe. I am not sure if Nebraska is worse than west Texas. I have made the drive between El Paso and San Antonio a couple of times. There is literally nothing out there. A decade ago, there were so few cars on the road that I would read the newspaper while driving. Also, I remember leaving Dallas with my best friend in '99 and him seeing the sign that said El Paso 650 miles (1000 km). He was totally bummed for the next hour or so.

About the only good thing I can say about driving the vast expanses of the US now is it's "less worse" than flying, thanks to the TSA, security paranoia.
driving with someone to talk to , hand you snacks and drinks, plan stops, isn't so bad. Driving alone is mind-numbing , and dangerous too if you start to nod off.
13 hours non-stop is my limit though, and will probably drop as I get older.

Hello
Plan ahead where to eat on Sunday; many places are closed. I was seeking a big steak dinner last time I was going thru Fort Worth, and ended up at a $hitbox taco drive thru. You might not find any alcohol on a Sunday either.

Just talked to a guy from the place where they used the projectors, and was told they have been used for a planetarium.
I hope to get some pictures of the lenses soon.
I looked at the planetarium program there, and they do 8 shows a week, lasting 1 hour, and my guess is that these projectors have been used for around 10 years.
My bid is they have around 5000-6000 hours on them.

Guys
High standby hours will wear the cathodes some, but are easier on the electronics......

Is it normal that planetarium installations leave the projectors on, or in standby from they get installed to they get replaced.?

Once you figure out you are sitting on a pile of useless tubes, you need to part those puppies out.

The tubes will probable have been replaced a couple of times? So good chance some are very good and others are reasonable?

Lots of variables with this. It depends if the projectors are left on 8 hours a day or 24 hours a day to stabilize them. Given that it was a planetarium, they will have projected a lot of blacks, resulting in lower than normal wear, OTOH in a blend situation, they'd have that 'windshield wiper' wear pattern if anything.
I've got a local planetarium that is swapping out tubes in a Barco 1209s with 24K hours on them. Mostly original tubes, save for a few replaced over time due to contamination and flickering at low IRE levels. They just bought tubes for one projector with all original tubes, where the G2s were maxed out. New tubes put the G2 down under the 1/2 way mark.
I'm gonna guess around 40K hours, and not the original tubes in Kurt's sets.

I am surprised that no one is expecting lenses for curved screens, like HD10-R5 or a Manakin. Planetariums have dome ceilings haven't they?

I looked at the pictures of Manakin lenses as they are on this forum lens topic and they look very different form the front as far as I could see.

I'm thinking they are indeed HD10E lenses (HFQ900). Great score if they are!
