|
|
Well I've been absent from here for some time as I've just been enjoying my 1209, it's been rock solid but I now have in my possession some 909's and have decided to do a side by side stack.
My screen will be 12 ft wide 16:9 which means I'll have to use an AT screen and hide the speakers behind it.
I'd like some input as to what screen material to use (budget) and also any other input you guy's think I'd need in pulling this off
My room is dedicated and light controlled, ceiling height is 8 ft and room dimension are 12.5 ft by 24 ft long. I'll be running everything through my HTPC.
Look forward to any and all input
Dave

Good to have ya back Davo
Im sure Aussie_Al will be as pleased as i am those 909s went to a good home!!
For the screen, i cant recomend OZ Theatre Majestic screens highly enough, theyre brilliant, easy to assemble, and can be had with an AT material.
I will find you a link, i have the 120" 16:9 from them.

Cheers mate
Thanks for the link but I'm going the cheap DIY route this time, I already have a 120" Stewart screen and honestly can't justify the costs anymore. I'm looking at importing some of the Seymour At screen material to build myself, I build house for crying out loud, I'm sure I can put together a friggin screen

Dave, you might be interested in THIS thread:

I've done what you're wanting to do. Not without unresolved issues of course, last night I watched one projector after them not being on for a week, and tweaked a bit of drifting on the one, but the drifting between the two still exists. Will get to it over the holidays and put up the AT screen. I've done nothing to my stack since I posted the last pix.

I am guessing there is some inside info on the 909s previous owner.
I don't see the DIY option on Seymour's website anymore. Be that as it may, the Enlightor 4k isn't DIY. The other material is or was.

Yes these are the ones from the Planetarium, 7 in total. I've offloaded 3 to a close friend and will be keeping 4 for myself
I'm going to cannibalize all 4 to get 2 good units, hopefully the tubes aren't too bad. I'll keep the left over boards and good tubes,if any, as spares and the rest to land fill.
Curt, your thread is perfect for me, thanks!
Oh and spanky, here's the material http://www.seymourav.com/screensDIY.asp

Case, on his site he sells material as DIY but Evo Ultra4K Screen Vinyl $854 for what I need. Seems excessive just for the material, maybe it's the bee's knee's however, I can get the Seymourav fabric for about $200 so a no brainer really.

Yeah i dont know anything about the other stuff, but from anything more than a meter away you wont see anything other than perfectly smooth surface with his gear.
Mine is not AT, but you would need a magnifying glass to see any grain on the surface. This way there is no chance it can have any negative impact on focus and sharpness.

Well I pulled out the old stewart Ultramatte 200 from storage to see if there was even the slightest possibility of using it. It's 4mts by 3 mts, perfect for what I need dammit.
Here she be, banana for scale of course
It will be 12 ft wide 16:9 screen, so I'll be sitting about 12 to 14 ft from screen, you guys reckon I'll see the perfs?
