I removed the LUG tubes and installed my old LCP tubes after rebuilding the LC chambers. I changed neck boards to the older ones (not the new transistor ones) and left the rest of the projector "new".

I reset everything and followed Tim's guide to try to set color. No go. I can't see the entire stairstep pattern on any tube even with Drive and G2 at 100 (contrast at 50, brightness at 50). This is looking at the tube faces.

I really doubt all three tubes are bad. So I swapped out the VIM thinking that maybe the VIM and neck boards are a set. Put my old VIM in, and the same result...

Did I wire something up badly? Can you think of anything I might be forgetting?

Oh, and the blue does not seem to do spot kill when I turn off. Doesn't seem overly bright, but you do see it zip to center and fade...

Changed out the blue neck board, still the same result... I'm befuddled!

Oh, found it!

Software revision 1 splits G2 out into a separate menu and allows adjustment of "sub-bright" instead of G2 in the color menus!

Had to bring G2 up for the tubes, then went back to the color menu to finish...

I swapped out the blue tube with another. The blanking works for the new tube, but not for the original... Defective tube??? Weird... works ok in all other ways...

Try another tube, and if you have a CLM with firmware 4.2-4.3 go with that one, its much better for what you need to do.

I did try another tube. The blanking problem seems to follow the tube. Does that mean there's a grid/plate problem?

Interesting about the software. What exactly is better about 4.2c?

The 4.2C have what you need, and it dont have the sub Brightness, wich is a pita when calibrating, i prefer the old G2. Drive setup in the color calibration menu.

I also never found any bugs in the 4.2C, i have a 5.something who have some anoying bugs when muting the OSD.

Yeah, I'm finding the sub bright annoying. I might be fighting weak tubes, though. These are my old ones.

Blanking not working has nothing to do with the tubes, it is all software dependent along with the appropriate boards.

Some CLM's will not work or control all function if the associated Software to go with the CLM's are not on the HDM and or
FGM in Ultras.

it's not a spot kill problem, it's contamination on the electron gun. What your seeing is called secondary emission, looks like St. Elmo's fire but I don't believe it will burn the tube like spot kill failure (which is instant and will actually melt the glass). Sometimes, if you stand up the tube with the face down and tap on the neck with a plastic rod it will dislodge the contaminant and let if fall down into the bell.
