So I got the new 8500LC home and unpacked only to find it has HD10L lenses on it, so I'm looking for some suggestions on lenses as these won't fill my 107" screen. HD10E or GT17's I was going to make adapters to fit HD145's to my Barco's so I could make adapters for the Marquee.

Thanks

Find a set of GT17, the prices on those is not as pumped up as the HD10E and HD10F lenses.

And on a standard machine wou wont be getting any usefull improvements with a set of HD10E.

Ill recomend you to find a 9500LC old one just so you have spare boards and can rip off the lenses. Might even be cheeper than buying a set of lenses alone.

Why not buy a set of 9" tubes and convert it to a 9500LC?

Im sure you allready know and im not sure what youre suggesting in the part i quoted, but HD-145s are useless to you for an 8500LC

Because it's brand new, literally brand new like I unpacked it. Very Happy

The adapter comment was if there were a lens that was good for the Marquee but needed an adapter I could make one.

Thanks stridsvognen for the info. Smile

wasn't there a guy on AVS that modded a set of 10L's to throw on a larger screen? I remember it vaguely. I could be wrong but I remember something like that.

Define brand new.....if the unit has been sitting and has started to sweat around the bellows because it sat, upgrade it! Case has a good point. Even a set of slightly used ones are worth the swap as the tubes will burn faster on the 8's and not just catch up but flat out look more worn after a thousand hours.

Its not just that, its way better with 9s in every way, and its not really brand new, its new old stock, its been lying around unused for ten years, its far from new Wink

Case the lens that I have are 10L(all three spare sets)

Not that they can be modded but the set from my 10pg are the best set

If the op wants a set I will gladly pack a set for cheap

Need to move them anyway Smile

To the op I upgraded my marquee from a 8110+ with a worn green tube(uneven wear) to a 9501
The difference is nice and worth the cost
No halos is one huge plus

The HD-10L's are a good starter set of lens

Doing the conversion isn't hard to do
The biggest hurdle is the cost to do the upgrade
The results are worth the cost

Heck I sold my 8 inch tubes and parts from the donor set and made every bit of the money I put into the upgrade

Evan he wont have halos cause his is allready LC. The difference in his case will be vastly brighter and likely sharper.

Yep.....selling the 8 inchers to pay for cost of 9's might be worth it. Would he need plates for this? I participated in one of these upgrades last year on a 8110 but not a 8500LC. Metal Mart made the top and bottom plates and the tubes and lenses came from Curt. Though at the time my friend who bought them was told by Curt that he was lucky to get a set of 10GT17's Not sure how true that is today. Only curt would know.

9" parts are in short supply because that's pretty much what everyone is using these days. NOrmally GT17s are relatively easy to find, but with lots of people converting 8" sets to 9", now the lenses are tough to find.

No way I would toss a NOS 8" set for a DIY 9", remember it is NOS, the magnets are still factory aligned, and probably is spot on. If it is true that the 8500LC uses P16 tubes this is especially true, even if he would push the tubes hard they will last years!

hmmm, never saw this before. Kinda useless though since a 106" diagonal 16:9 is a lot different than 106" diagonal 4:3 . It also sounds like they're saying GT17 is the best for HT size screens?

Quote:
HD10 FAMILY DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
The HD10 family of lenses has been designed to maximize performance and
versatility for professional CRT projection video, data and graphics applications.
All HD10 family lenses are optically coupled and designed to cover a full 178mm
(7”) raster diagonal. They are all fully color corrected hybrid designs,
incorporating both plastic and glass elements and share the same C-element and
mounting geometry, making it possible to
interchange the lenses on the same
projector. The following is a brief description of lenses in the HD10 family.

HD10E – The HD10E covers 167mm focal length (7”) CRT raster diagonal. It
was designed to provide good performance over the largest possible
magnification range (14-45X). For this reason, CPL recommends the HD10E
lens for applications where the intended screen size requirements may vary over
this wide range (90” – 300” diagonal).

HD10L – The HD10L is designed for optimized performance for smaller screen
sizes not covered by other HD10 family
lenses. This lens provides excellent
performance for a specific magnification range (9-13X). CPL recommends the
HD10L lens for applications requiring screen sizes of 60-90” diagonal.

HD10GT17 – The HD10GT17 is designed for improved resolution over the HD10
lens over a specific magnification range. This lens provides excellent
performance for magnifications of 14-20X. CPL recommends the HD10GT17
lens for applications requiring screen sizes of 100-140” diagonal.

HD10GT26 – The HD10GT26 lens is designed for improved resolution over the
HD10E lens for magnifications of 21-30X. CPL recommends the HD10GT26 for
applications requiring screen sizes of 150-200” diagonal.

HD10GT30-67 – The HD10GT30-67 is designed for improved resolution over the
HD10E for magnifications of 30-45X and to extend the range of the family up to
67X. CPL recommends the HD10GT30-67 for high magnification applications
requiring screen diagonals of 210-460”.
