Looks like you have all the pieces there; what would the minimum hardware requirement be in an Apple desktop machine with two graphics cards?

His Laptop has two Video outs. An HDMI and it also has thunder bolt.

Actually, I think he's got a newer MacBook Pro, because you need two Thunderbolt connectors, plus the HDMI like only the last generation or to of MacBook. One Thunderbolt for the Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder, and an HDMI and a Thunderbolt for each output channel.

Unfortunately, that means no MacMini, which would have been awesome for this application. I suspect that most the image processing is being done in the video card's overlay, so processor utilization is very low. Unfortunately, you're limited to a machine with more than basic I/O, which means either a MacBook Pro, or a Mac Pro (which is $3000+).

I do like this solution because it doesn't rely only on what you can play back on the computer like it used to be with VLC and other PC blend solutions back in the day. PC-based content playback is a non-starter IMHO because it's a pain in the ass.

In fact, even with only the video processing on the computer, my concern would still be daily usability. I like to actually use my theater, not just dick around with it… So if I have to leave my seat to switch aspect ratios or refresh rates, then again, it's a non-starter. You can do all that easily with the Lumagen remote, so in that respect, I think this would probably be a big step backwards for you compared to your current setup in terms of usability.

I love the spirit of experimentation, though!

Hi SC

You are right. I don't want to sacrifice my expensive macbook for home theater.
there is hdmi capture card with USB3.0. http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/models/
so in this way, we can use a mac mini

one problem is that OSX driver for USB3.0card is in beta level. http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/detail?sid=3947&pid=4042&leg=false&os=mac

Ok!! then there isn't any problem!

I have a question.
If Input source has a 8 bit color depth, Is there a benefit of using 10bit CMS Box in digital domain?

Hello, the big E

Blackmagic capture card driver's minimum support OS is 10.8

AFAIK, powermac g5's maximum support is 10.5.8

Minimum hardware requirement we need may be a latest mac mini, above we mentioned.

Stay tune. I got my second cine9 home Very Happy

Ahh no biggie I don't mind useing a newer Mac if it allows me to do a blend setup

My MacBook Pro will run the latest Mac OS but I don't think the hardware is up to snuff to do this

I have always wanted a Mac mini anyway so if this turns out good I will grab one up soon

OK..

now my setup is a top and bottom. not a side by side.

I need a full working setup for my happy movie life. so until I get my new cinemascope screen, this setup will works for me.

This is just for testing. this setup use a half of entire phosphor one pj by one. So there is no benefit of edge blending Laughing

bottom pj has green tube wear resulted from the previous setup. You can see brighter area on the top of the screen.

(white thin lines on the screen are due to using of a trial software)

I'm considering wear evening. I did it to my top PJ.

or I will try to make faint masking for bright area in the VDMX software.

watching movie with covering mask. and doing wear evening with inverted mask.

Will it works? Very Happy

Do this with the green tube with the uneven wear
http://www.curtpalme.com/Balancing_CRT_wear.shtm
Then do a stack you would be much happier

I may do a stack if I can't pull off a blend setup
