|

Hello,
Last year I bought a second hand Vip 3D Theatre with IR Glasses and used it on my Optoma HD65. I had great results. Then Optoma released a free update which allows the HD65 to work at 120hz. Vip 3D worked even better.
Last summer I sold my HD 65 and bought a JVC X35 of RS46 as it's called in the US. I didn't hook up the Vip 3D since the projector is native 3D. My plan was to buy a JVC emitter and glasses. Money or lack thereof put this on plan hold.
My interest in 3D is somewhat returning (with amazing movies like Gravity). I still don't have any glasses but I figured I could use the ones that came with my VIP 3D. So I hooked up my VIP 3D Theatre to my computer (I use my PC as my bluray player) and to my JVC.
The result is a blue screen. I've checked all the cables and settings. The projector does output 3D when my PC is directly connected to the projector. But when I connect the Theatre all I get is that blue screen again.
Is there some form of incompatibility between the VIP 3D Theatre and JVC projectors. I've read something about frame locking is that it?
Any suggestions? What am I missing?
Thanks!
EDIT: Small edit;
I've got the version in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hk9bQhcwr0, a prototype apparently.

Thanks for your reply.
I know I don't have to use the Theatre. But that means I'd have to buy new glasses and a new emitter which would set me back another 300 €.

Right, but can't you just sell the VIP and glasses and use that money to buy the JVC emitter and a pair or two of glasses?
I would guess the VIP is outputting a single the JVC just isn't compatible with, maybe 120hz since that what your Optoma was running. I don't know much about the VIP; can you force it down to 60hz?

Oh, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the glasses you have with the VIP may also be the same as the Optoma and MonsterVision glasses. If so, you may just be able to get a MonsterVision emitter from ebay and connect it to the JVC emitter output. That's what I'm doing with my RS45. Monster emitter and Monster glasses.

I can force the Theatre down to 60 hz but that doesn't help.
I could try and sell the VIP Theatre, but I doubt anyone would buy it. No offence, it's a great product. But with the rise of 120hz capable tv's, 3D tv's in general and 3D projectors people don't really need a device like the theatre anymore.
I tried hooking up my emitter directly to my projector but that doesn't work. It briefly powers on when plugging in but then stops working. I thought these ports are standardized.

I don't know… There are still millions of displays out there installed, working perfectly, and there are still hobbyists and enthusiasts interested in 3D. By the "nobody will want this" logic, your Optoma shouldn't have been salable, either. You may not get great money for it, but something is better than nothing.
There's a PK-EM1 on ebay for $80 with no bids, and pairs of glasses for $35/ea, so an emitter and two pairs of glasses should run you about $150. If you can get even $125 or so for the VIP, then you're very close to the JVC setup.
Like I said, I think you could probably grab a Monster emitter and use it with your VIP glasses, too. Very cheap.
I think either solution would be better than trying to make the VIP work, when the JVC is already 3D-capable.
