I just hooked up my JVC HR-S9911U vcr to my Direct tv box. Everything works ok, but when I have the vcr on there is a white horizontal line that floats upwards on the picture. Not real noticeable, but there. It's not there when using just the direct tv box. It shows up when recording to
I'm guessing it's something to do with the vcr tuner ??
Not a big deal, but wondering if some type of filter might be available to get rid of it??

sounds like a "hum bar", which can be caused by a ground loop issue, often with the cable feed to the house being poorly grounded.

Also try plugging your VCR into the same AC outlet as the direct TV box if you haven't already done so.

Do you have cablevision connected to the VCR? If so, disconnect it and see if the line goes away.

What is cable vision? All I have connected is the Direct tv box

I'll check that both items are plugged in the same strip.

OK, same thing. Disconnect all incoming signals to the VCR, so that only the output is connected.

Unhooked the direct tv. Screen is blue set on L 1- Lines show up really well. Moving fast up the screen to.

Can anything be done to get rid of them?

Plugged the sat box & vcr on the same outlet strip. No difference

I have that issue here if I run a video line from one side of my living room to the other. I got around this by plugging all video and audio equipment into the same side of the AC line. That is. All the outlets come out off the same side of your fuse/breaker panel.

You could cheat and use an extension cord on just the VCR.

It could be a bad VCR? Can you try another one? What happens if you disconnect the audio lines from the VCR, and the only thing you hvae connected is the video output?

Unplugging audio made no difference. Only vcr I have. Everything else on it works great.
It's not that big of deal, mostly see the lines if it's a real dark scene. And even then they are not that noticeable.
I'll live with it.

it is a ground loop as stated above. It doesn't really make sense that it's the only source with an issue if you have nothing else connected to it. If you can beg or borrow another VCR, that would be the next step.
Cheers!

The lines are caused by a ground loop, I use to get it when I ran my TV cable into a tuner then into my projector. If you have a multi-meter put it across the outside of the coaxial or RCA connection on the VCR and the outside barrel of the satelite co-ax. Set the meter to AC and see what you get. In our old office I had 110 volts from the back of the PC to the TV cable.

Are the TV and VCR AC plugs 2 prong or 3 and are they polarized?

My Video game, Roku player and dvd player and direct tv picture don't have any line problems. I don't know. If it was real annoying I'd look into it more, but as I say it's not real bad when watching direct tv thru the vcr/recording. I thought I'd ask thinking it might be a easy fix. Adding A Filter or something like that

The projector is 3 prong, It's plugged in separately.
The vcr is 2 pronged and plugged into a 3 prong extension strip

One blade of the AC plug wider than the other.
