I'll be interested to hear the advice from this thread. Every time I look into and mess around with the tools, it seems to be a bit of a pain in the ass.

What's you're goal for the ripping, John? Build a library for uncompressed playback, or smaller files for mobile devices? Do you want menus, extras, and subtitles, or just main features?

I'm using ClownBD to rip the main feature without menus to an ISO file.

Me too...... 5 years or more now....

AnyDVD HD to rip image to hard drive.

VirtualCloneDrive to mount the .iso

PowerDVD 12 to playback

I got a life time licence on AnyDVD a long time ago and it was much much cheaper then. Even so, at todays price, it'll pay for itself many times over in the long term.

A good way of getting PowerDVD is if you need a new Bluray drive or want to treat yourself, pick one which has the software bundled.

I used DVDFab to rip/compress my 400-ish disc BD collection to a hard drive for my deployments. I was very happy with the results, and they update the software relatively often to fix disc-related issues with new movie releases. It's pretty easy for the layperson to use too. I use VLC Media Player for playback.

AppGeeker Blu-ray Ripper is pretty good about being able to back blu-ray movies up to pretty much of viewing video formats.

http://www.appgeeker.com

You could convert the BD to lossless MKV files, but the file size would be huge, or convert just to good looking h.264 video (I prefer).

I have been using it for years, had never failed to me.

Really? Years? That appgeeker.com domain is only about 14 months old. Do you also get paid to drop into forums all over the internet and say, "I've been using it for years," or "It works great of for me"?

Lord...

Do a search for "appgeeker"… There are dozens of pages of Google search results of one post like what I mentioned, posted by a poster with one post, and never any followup. Sound familiar?

AppGeeker and Leawo are the same, then there's PavTube, Xilisoft, Tipard, ImToo, 4Videosoft… All look like the same formulaic crap. None of them have any information about the company, principals, or even a country of origin, and they all use shady social marketing. I'd bet money that all dozen or so of those different "brands" are actually just one or two companies, er, developers from China.

I remember a few years ago when the forum was getting spammed CONSTANTLY for Tipard DVD ripping. Jesus, I deleted several hundred of those spam posts myself.

I'd be happy to have you prove me wrong.

I still need the opposite. M2TS to DVD in AVCHD format.

Well it's probably overkill for what you want, as I've become the designated family videographer (have done 4 family weddings now), but I use Cyberlink PowerDirector for all of my video editing and disc creation.

Ditto but I use a Dune player for playback and then there is also Yadis the icing on the cake for organizing titles... Wink
