Attached is my commercial version of my 02 VIM mod. It has two (2) mini boards, the red one is a power supply for the +/- 14 volt rail into the sample and Hold circuits (both int/ext). It corrects on that VERY noisy 14 supply rail, and provides a VERY clean +/- 12 volt supply for those circuits. This commercial version makes for an almost noiseless VIM. And that lends to a super black level performing VIM.

Hi Mike,

Are you going to do something like this for the 03p VIM?

You wanna sell a DIY kit for these mods? I would love to buy the parts and pay something for your R&D but I don't want to drop too much more money into my pj...

Thanks

God bless...
Mark

Mp can speak for himself but i wouldn't hold your breath for a kit. Some of the soldering work is way beyond the avg. hobbyist. Without specialized tools you could get yourself in trouble real quick.

This is the 03 VIM outputting 1080p/72 at 199.98mhz, Not only is the 1:1 spectacular but the linearity is spot on with plenty of light output.

Wouldn´t it be a good idea to change the connectors on the boards and on the cables to something a little more RF freindly?
As a former RF techiciant I would rate RCA connectors only a step above banan plugs Laughing

The correct way to transmit a high bandwith signal is to insure the charecteristic impedanse all the way from transmitter to reciever is the same over the bandwith transmitted. I could suggest something like a 75 ohm version of SMB or MCX.
With RCA connectors you probably get standing waves on the cable resulting in ringing on the signal and RF transmitted noise.

You are 100% correct here. We thought about changing to the better impedance matched connectors and cables, but slipped our mind. Surely there is problems with the mini RCAs. It gets worse the higher the bandwidth. The impedance ringing shows as various degrees of color shifting on test patterns. It can be somewhat tamed by making sure the mini RCAs are well connected and tight
