It might be possible, but I think S-VHS cassettes are keyed differently so the deck identifies the cassette as its current S-VHS format. If you could key it differently (drill some holes into it) to match what a D-VHS or W-VHS is keyed to, then it might work.
It would be nice to have a D-VHS or W-VHS cassette on hand so I know what they are keyed like. W-VHS is unobtanium
