Not bad, worth it in comparison to the other prices. |
I just got shipping confirmation. Took a while. Maybe it'll be here by August. |
This Is why I went back to crt but to each they're own
The cost of going back to digital is more then I like for the picture quality you get from most digital projectors |
I haven't gone digital. I love CRT, have my feet resting on one I just bought. I just wanted something that use to cost $20G's for $40 to play with.

Whew that was good to hear
I have enough digital projectors to play around with to sink a battleship but need to get rid of some as I have some that I don't use(and haven't used some but one time maybe two times)
But I have a nec 10pg I am repairing to put to use in my home theater(if I can find someone to recap a board or two for me)

It's AHHH-LIVE!
I cleaned the beam splitters with Kodak lens cleaning tissues. It also came with an anamorphic prisim lens. Interestingly that doesn't do a horizontal stretch. Just a vertical squeeze. As far as I can tell from my research the lens is out of a Faroudja projector based on hand picked JVC DILA chips and re-cased. The FDP-DILA2.
Just watching the Matrix on DVD to test this.
I'll post some pictures a little later.

Are all those dots on the VC lens dust inside of it?

Yikes. How easy is it to open up so you can clean the elements?

Not sure I'll have to look into it.

I see what you did there
FWIW that looks like an old Panamorph-designed VC lens. I had to open up my Panamorph UH380 (a larger, HE lens) to mod the rear optical element position, and the whole process was far easier than I thought. Hopefully it's the same for this one.

Have a look at this ebay auction. I think it's from one of these projectors:
Faroudja FDP-DILA2 Projector

You appear to either have a Panamorph PSO-U100 (glass optics) or a U85 (plastic optics). They looked very similar to eachother, and to the pics you posted. The modern-day version of both is the FVX-200, which uses glass optics.
Pre-dating all of those lenses is Panamorph's original lens, the oil-filled P792. The Faroujda projector that you linked had 4:3 D-ILA panels, so they incorporated the optics from the P792 into the chassis to make it a 16:9 projector for the bargain unit price of ~$40K.

So getting one of these lenses with the JVC DILA mount included in the $40 initial price was a good deal then?

Just watched this projector cook its self into red blobs on the screen over the last few hours. Digital, what fun!
Also had my iScan HD go from normal to purple and green regardless of input. It also refused to do a 1:1 pixel map. The JVC just woulnd't use the full signal across the panel no matter what the iScan's setting were. Got almost 3 whole hours use out of it before it died.
Even tried a 2nd DVD player. Same thing.
2 down, let's see what else I can cook to death over here.
What a fun night!

Ha, yes, even though they're both old lenses, they're still worth well more than that. Especially if you have the glass version. Since it appears that you've cooked the projector, you could sell the lens alone for several hundred dollars and come out with a nice profit.

I gave the projector a day of rest. It powered back up.
I suspect there are blobs of dust on the beam spliters causing the red blobs because there is no air filter.
BTW I need to source an air filter. Anyone?
