Link Posted: Thu Apr 11, 2013 6:44 pm Post subject: Brightness problem with Radiance XD |
|
|
Hello,
I have a BG808 with a XD and OPPO103. When I plug the OPPO directly to my BG808, I have to adjust the brightness to 45 to get it right.
If I plug the XD, I have to adjust the Barco brigthness to 32. I reset the XD with the factory values and put the latest firmware.
I don't understand why the picture has a brightness so high. I also checked the XD ouput and it is set to Video (not PC).
Thanks for your help

There is no selection. I suppose it is auto select.
On the Lumagen, it is set to auto, but it displays "RGB" in brackets.

In fact input = auto (RGB) and output = RGB (vid).
I don't know if it is because of the latest firmware, but it looks like my BG808 have problem of sync with the XD. I only can see the picture with flashes

When I use only the BG808 with the OPPO, the video ouput is set to 442 and the picture is fine.
If I use the XD (or the HDQ), I need to put RGB or else I have a green picture. I doesn't make sense.
By the way, I also checked with my HDQ without the XD and I have the same brigthness issue. I have to lwer it to 32

Ok you have to make sure you are in the right menu for the Lumagens. There is an input and an output menu. both should be set to 442 . Do not select the Auto for input and for the output.
If the image is Green it wounds like a menu setting is wrong. Nothing with the Lumagens.
See what happens.

On the HDQ I only have input to set. I didn't find an output type.

On the HDQ, anything other than Input->type->DVI-D/HDMI444 RGB gives a green picture. Whatever is set on the OPPO.

Yes I have it.
I did some tests without any Lumagen to check how Greg's card behaves.
- RGB video (OPPO) gives a very bright picture at brightness (BG808) = 45
- Yc422 or Yc444 (which one is better by the way ?) gives a great picture at brightness (BG808) = 45
So my understanding is that the Lumagen outputs RGB and gives a very bright picture.
But why do I have a green picture if I choose Yc422 or 444 on the Lumagen when it is ok without it ?

I did more tests last night.
The brightness problem seems to come from my DVI card when I used RGB signals (it is fine with Yc422 or 444). I checked with my Pioneer TV to see if the problem came from the OPPO player. It does not.
Conclusion: if I use RGB signal, I have a 30% brighter picture and a disappointing result even after lowering the Barco luminosity level.
If I use Yc422 signal, the XD and HDQ gives a green/pink picture even when I set input/output (XD) or input only (HDQ) to Yc422.
I still does not understand what is wrong on my Lumagen vps. I also plugged to a LCD screen instead of the BG808 and I still have this green/pink picture.
I am waiting for feedback from Lumagen and Greg. No reply for the moment.
Neither solution is good

I know that my Pioneer Kuro can manage correctly the Yc422. I will do the test this evening.
I would be amazed if nobody had the OPPO (Yc422) + Radiance XD (Yc422) working.
On the OPPO, there is the HDMI CEC option and maybe this must be activated in order to get the correct info to the Lumagen.
There are also the Color format (input/output) on the Radiance that I didn't check. I only set Video Type (input/output) to Yc422.
It looks like another long night of testing is coming for me

Yes that is the one i was talking about.
It does work fine. I had it set this way. But for some reason the conversion in the TV one was not right. It does not output 422 only 444 so i was getting weird calibration results. So I decided to go all 444 but I still didn't like the colors. So that is where I ended up with RGB the entire path. I may revisit 422 up to the radiance input then have the radiance convert to 444 out and see how it looks. I am not sure why the TV-One does not like 422 in , maybe because it is a commercial product and not meant to be used for home theater.
