I'm not sure how soon this'll be...but am trying to schedule the first calibration tour of 2012 during the first or second week of next month.
I've got to get down to Atlanta and over to San Francisco (after getting to San Diego, likely) from Detroit.
If there is anyone along the way...I-75 to Atlanta, then some route to San Diego (I won't likely take that drive across the entire state of Texas, did 2/3rds of that ten years ago and don't think I've recovered yet...cannot decide which state is more mind-numbingly boring to drive through, TX or Nebraska!), and after a few days with my best friend in southern CA...up to San Francisco and then back across the country (although it may be via LA to avoid the snowy Northern mountain passes) to Detroit.
If you are near that route, contact me on my regular e-mail...jjgannon@ix.netcom.com...since remembering to check here isn't my strongest habit while writing. I'm churning out two books and a lengthy essay at the moment, and time just vaporizes. I'm trying to figure out where the first two weeks of this year have already gone!!
I'll entertain all inquiries, and you betcha it'll be a GREAT value. After my sabbatical, and with the decreasing values of CRT projectors, I've decided to continue using the recommended ISF pricing schedule...from when I first joined back in the mid-90s!!! It'll offset the higher travel costs, since I expect to see gasoline peak above $4 after the war starts.
Anyone who sets up multiple calibrations within their circle of friends in any given town will be given discounts...and y'all can share the travel and lodging to get me to your town. I know we're all a bit tight these days...I've been really raw for these past few years of mid-life re-adjustment, so my needs are light.
Cheers and more, hope to hear from some of ya soon...need to get this trip planned and scheduled within a week.
Sincerely,
John
Detroit
I know this is soliciting business, but Curt gave me a blessing a few weeks ago to post this invitation...

Man. I wish I knew before hand you were still around in the D and doing calibrations. Bummer.

I never quite stopped, I just got more difficult to reach for a few years.
Kept enough in the game to stay angry with HDMI and pretty much everything engineered after 2005. Except perhaps anything from Oppo and HD-Fury and Key Digital. Seems the rest is predestined for an early toss in the scrap heap.
@Cliffy...at least on the way back. I will probably drive up into Wyoming to get that court transcript from the speeding violation story, if I told that when we saw each other. Got some interesting testimony I'd like a record of, heh.
Cheers!

I tried a few times thru email to reach ya, so I know. I live in the wilds of East Lansing so I may hit ya up for a calibration if you wouldn't mind. Not any time soon though.

John,
If you are heading to Atlanta, you will be taking the interstate right by Lexington, Ky.
I am 15 minutes off the interstate, and would love to show you my TVOne blend of two XGLC's. If I know when you are coming, I can have it warmed up and provide a hot meal. Just tell me when, and what you would like to eat!
Bob

This is a shameless bump.
For a variety of reasons, including a strange and persistent flu which nearly turned into full-blown pneumonia for a month, this trip has not happened yet. Quite thankful to have missed the strange weather down south (my intended route) and enjoyed the strange warm weather we got in Michigan during March (even with the illness, the heat might've been key to my healing).
Current trajectory will take me from Detroit to Chicago...then either the middle or northern route towards Boulder/Denver...then down through Taos, Albuquerque, Las Vegas...and finally San Diego. A quick loop up to San Francisco (and maybe back to San Diego, that is my base of operations and eventual landing spot for at least a week) through Los Angeles on either leg...then back through Wyoming...and back by whatever meandering route catches my fancy to Detroit.
So...anyone along this route can get some great setup, convergence, and calibration work for cheap. Audio measures, too. Heck, I do Universal, Philips, Niles Intellicontrol remote programming as well. I'm a huge fan of the URC MX3000...and even have a few of those for sale, NIB.
Cheers...let me know. Looking forward to making more happy enthusiasts, and I'm great at Home Theater marriage consulting.
Sincerely,
John

Phoenixed,
It was great to meet you, finally, yesterday. Great making that 8500 shine...and I'm lusting after Maher's old 9500. I may have to end up with that someday soon.
Enjoy!
Cheers,
John

If anyone has an HD-Fury 2 or 3...I will trade some labor for one...finally got a BluRay player, an all-region modded Sharp...and the damn thing is HDMI-only. I will reluctantly join this movement, but in the most outlaw way possible!
Cheers!

Oh yeah...one more thing...I've got the setup remotes for the Zenith 900/Runco 850, and know the codes to get deep into Dwin stuff.
So there.

John it was a damn good time and I am glad to meet the legend and thanks for coming out of retirement. You taught me so much. If I decide to part with it you will be the first to know. I kinda wanna keep it and get some parts when they get cheap enough and then have you over again. I have some more baked goods with our names on em.

Phoenixed,
I had a blast, too. Damn that Murphy guy, but we exorcised him fully. We really nailed it, didn't we?! Hope your wife was cool...tell me she's seen that image already!
Got home almost exactly at one o'clock, the last five miles were gruelling...then I couldn't get to sleep for two hours. Ugh. Feel like I got hit by a truck, but am now inspired to work on my XG85. Heh.
Cheers!
CLIFFY!
Should be within a week...I can drive out a night earlier to hang out, the Chicago guy is probably a half hour from you, he's south and west of town...but off that damn toll loop. Didn't they just raise the rates...like double?! I see a lot of the south side, because I'm so damn stubborn against waiting in line to pay a toll. Thankfully, most map programs have easy ways to avoid 'em...
I'd love to have an evening just kicking back and having fun...maybe even watching an entire movie, all the way through. Hey, guy's gotta DREAM, right?!
Cheers!
John

Oh, and Phoenixed...ixnay on the ordway etirementray...once I shaved my beard and the strange gray within it, I'm too young looking to use it! It was cover against my new Grosse Pointe Park neighbors, because they'd trust a guy retired early (assuming I was well-invested, heh)...but not one on extended sabbatical. I use the sabbatical term in college towns...they understand that...LOL!
In the city, I just admit I lost my mind. That earns the most street cred...nobody messes with the crazy white dude. Especially if he LOOKS like The Dude. Long Live The Dude...
Cheers
