Specifically for front projection CRT's what colorimeter are you using (hardware/software)?

Any issues with FP CRT's?

Does it work with other displays?

Pantone ColorVision Spyder 2.

Does it work with other display types? Well, it's designed for other display types mainly directview CRT and LCD.

Does it work for CRT FP? I think it works pretty well. It seems responsive in all the right ways. I mainly went this route because it was cheap (under $100).

I use the philips Colorimeter, it is specific for CRT's , But I have used it on a couple friends digital before

http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/philips/colortruth/pm563900.htm
http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/philips/colortruth/pm563925.htm

I Have them both the three headed sensor is meant to measure three points for white field uniformity, but I use the three head sensor directly over the crt lenses and adjust the three colours all at once.
Doing Greyscale at the projector or right at the screen on my screen yeild very similar results .

$7K for a rarely used tool for a hobby all over what is probably a sub $5K projector?????? Shocked And you have two of the things??? Huh. Unless you're doing ISF, or are the idle rich, hire a pro to set it up. There. I jsut saved you money. Feel free to send me just 50% of what I just saved you and we'll call it even. Mr. Green

Ditto. I love my Philips. I do have colorfacts 6000 pro, but never use it since the Philips. That's why I'm selling it. The Philips gives me the same results and is MUCH faster.

Hi There,

Spyder2 with CalMAN.....The spyder2 express/pro/tv all have the same sensor the difference is the software (and price).

The only useful software is the TV, as this will also do main brightness/contrast, however if your happy with DVE/AVIA and eyes then the Express is cheaper.

The CalMAN software is great and getting better, it uses the spyder2 hardware and its own software, so any of the packages will run with it.

You can with the TV service mode or with extra Optical (the old software software) get the data out XYy (?) and use a spreadsheet and maths to get thier the cheap way, or there is a frech piece of software that may work....it was detailed in another thread and due to a dead PJ (SMPS fail) i've yet to try it.

cya,
Lee

That is what I'm wondering about. What is the bare minimum package that will accurately measure a FP CRT color temp, tracking, gray scale, white balance etc.

The sensor may be the same but are all the software package able to read/sense a FP CRT.

Hi,

I came at this from a slightly different perspective over on the UK forum and got some very comprehensive stuff about Spyder and associated software from Lee (Alaric).

Makes some interesting reading

Thanks again Lee

I thought I read that the Spyder2 Pro does not adjust the primaries?

Stupid question but aren't the RGB tubes the primaries?

Its unfortunate that no one makes an elaborate freeware program (GNU Public License) the use the Spyder2 sensor.

I have only Spyder2pro, DVE, and AVIA. Is it enough to calibrate the CRT FP? Or I have to buy Calman?

I also use the TV2150. It takes a bit of getting used to but works fine for me. It does wig out below 20 IRE. But if you can get your PJ to track flat all the way from 100 IRE to 20 IRE, there's no reason to think that it's going to run to far out in the last 20 IRE that you can hardly see anyway.

Someone did..actually. And it is really good. Smile

It also has support for Monaco OpticXR (DTP-94), which is better compared to Spyder2. (I have both).
