I have both HD 145's and HD 6C lenses for my BD708. Which would be better, the original 145's or the color filtered 6C's. Looking for better image quality.

Well, if the barco's glycol is not color filtered nor the lenses, then I would suggest to use the HD-6s (although the HD-6s ar optically inferior to HD145s, but the BD708 isn't that high performer to care about the sharpness loss of the lenses) but the colors would be improved by much with the HD-6s. Although the optimal solution would be installing filtered HD145s, or grab a NEC PG plus or xtra for that price, which has filtered HD145s, and also much better performer than the barco

Both lenses was available with and without color filtering, color filtered HD-6 are super rare though.
All these lens versions are color corrected.

Check both lens series if there is color filtering elements inside lenses, look through red and green lenses to see if those have R/G tint.

If either series have no filtering, use HD145's, those are bit sharper. Don't think there's any difference in colors if both series are non filtered versions.

The 6C's are filtered on the green and red. I guess I'll use them for better color reproduction. They're not doing any good on the PG.
Thanks

Did you replace the tinted gylcol and try out the filtered lenses yet? Whaddya' think? I've been wanting to do this for the fun of it and just got a 2nd ECP I can play with while the other remains setup...

No tint in the glycol on the 708. Swapped the lenes over but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

It's likely to look terrible when you first turn it on, if you didn't have them in there before. You'll need to recalibrate with the filtered lenses on. The results will be worth it! Filtered lenses make a **HUGE** difference IMO.

Case, you own both filetered HD-6 and HD-144 equipped machines, I recall the HD-144s has lighter tint compared to HD-6s, but I never had the chance to compare them side by side, do you notice any difference in colour between the two sets?

Do I have this correct?

1) colored lenses are different than tinted glycol in color value (wavelengths passed)
2) colored lenses have different transmittance (are darker or lighter in net) than the glycols.

This means when I recalibrate, I'll actually be driving some tubes harder than before. Is the following a true statement?

Color filtered lenses will result in the tubes being driven differently, and thereby wearing at different relative rates, than when compared to using color tinted glycols.

The obvious follow-up Qs:
Which tubes start being driven differently as a result of switching to color filtered lenses? How much harder or lighter are they being driven?

I'm guessing folks have learned this intuitively, ie, switched and had to turn-up/turn-down X a lot or a little, etc. Sorry if this was all on AVS somewhere back in the day, I didn't look.

Thanks,
Matt
