Just curious, Jeremy... What are you going to do in five years when you can't get tubes anymore? I mean, you're already using machines you really can't find good tubes for. Yeah, you can switch to a 9500 in a few years, but even if tubes are available, they're going to be horrendously expensive. Are you going to sell the Crown Vic just to buy a blue tube for your projector? Wink

Dont worry Jeremy, I got Tubes for 25 years or more!!

Do I really need to point out the reduced light output, shifting color balance, and burn-in on CRTs; none of which can be fixed by replacing a $200-300 bulb.

People love to tout the 10,000-hour CRT lifespan, but unless you have a tiny and/or high-gain screen, the CRT will look good for closer to half that.

A digital wouldnt have a f*cking hour-counter burnt into the corner after playing the same game a few hours every couple of days one winter, either. Yes, I'm a little sore.

Evil or Very Mad Maybe you just need to get a digital and leave the CRT world!

Something like the Sony 1000 that everyone on AVS is going ape over and buying sight unseen. Laughing Honestly, we sat together during the demo and I don't remember either of us or anyone for that matter blown away by this thing. The replies on AVS make it sound like a totally different pj from what I remember. Confused

Curt and Mac,
You guys might want to bone up on the 1000 if it has any problems like the Qualia had.

Why? It's a Sony. As soon as it becomes available it's major parts will become obsolete........ Laughing Laughing

I will at some point. Not sure when, though. Could be awhile. Like I've said many times, I'm just getting really sick of the noise... It's extra bad right now because my my hush box is down. It never spent the time to engineer a good one, it started coming apart, and I really don't feel like spending an entire day rebuilding it... But, such is life.

I'm just getting posts along the lines of "digital sucks ass" and "CRT rawcks - it's so much better than digital"... It's just so ignorant. Yes, this is a CRT forum, but it's also a DISCUSSION forum. I like CRT and digital - for various reasons. 8 years ago, digital did suck ass. In the last 3-4 years though, digital has gotten really excellent. CRT has its advantages, and digital has its advantages. Period. So, if I read something ignorant, I'm going to feel compelled to point out the inaccuracy. I'd expect anybody else to do the same for me. You and Mac do. Wink

Yeah, I have no interest in that machine. I'm a cheap bastard. Maybe if I had money coming out my ass, and I could afford to just flush money down the toilet every couple of years selling and upgrading the latest/greatest...

For now, like I said - I'm a cheap bastard. Probably something like a used RS2... 'Cause that's how I roll. I love lots bang for the buck. That's why I got into CRT in the first place.

I don't know when I switch. Could be six months, could be two years. Totally depends.

You know I was yanking your chain. Razz

I think by this time next year one will be able to pick up a used RS40 or RS25 for a really good price. I could see a RS15 going for between $1k to $1.5k easily.

As for the Sony 1000, I guess I am a little overwhelmed by how many people are saying it is the greatest thing ever and buying it sight unseen. It seems like a huge leap to pay $20k for something that you are relying on the opinions of others.

They're a lot smarter than I was. $1000 is what I will have dropped after buying a bulb... and those people are at least buying something that is suppose to work!

Which was another reason why I wish this thing would have at least half assed work even if it was dim with a bad bulb. So I could evaluate for myself if the current crop of dila has the stuff to replace my 9" crt I have in my theater right now. I ordered another bulb from China last night so I might yet get to find out.

Even if you put in a new lamp it wont come on if the lamp timer is engaged. You would have to reset the timer. There is a sequence to reset it if the lamp wont light but you need the remote to do so. And I believe you did not get a remote with it, correct?

Remember the Sony 1000 costs $25k retail and probably $20k street.

You have $1k into it and could walk away having lost the money or sell it and recoup most of the money. You could even put another $500 into and still probably come out ahead.
