The remote for my Sony D50 has quit working. I changed out the batteries but that didn't help. Cleaned the connectors to the batteries - nothing. Any ideas of what it could be and what to do about it? I'd like to take it apart. I unscrewed both screws that I could find but it still won't come apart. Is there some trick to disassembling the remote so I can have a look inside? Thanks!

Check the switches on the back of the D50 to make sure they are set to 0,1. If not, the remote won't work. Have you tried the wired cable between the remote and projector?

Yes the switches are set to 0,1. I've been using my D50 and the remote for a couple years now without issue. The remote just suddenly stopped working. And, no, it won't work plugged into the main unit via the cord. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Is this an RM-PJ1000? Does the red LED on the front of the remote light when you're pressing the buttons?

Take the batteries out, push each and every button on the remote once. Put the batteries back in and try again.

Also test the batteries to see if they are dead.

I'm not talking IR... I just mean the plain old red LED right on the front of the remote, right next to the "light" button... That's not flashing on/off at all when you push buttons?

"Light" button doesn't work, either?

sorry, i meant the LED light next to the "light" button. no it doesn't flash on/off, nor does the "light" button illuminate the buttons. nothing works.

Ah, OK. Definitely remote, then.

Hmm... I seem to remember something really weird happening with my remote (same model) when I first set up my G70. I went to try the remote after it had been in storage, and I actually heard a sizzling sound. Pulled the battery door, and I had a bad (leaky) set of sh*tty Duracells in there. They leaked all over everything.

I spent the next hour or two tearing the thing down piece by piece on the dining room table and cleaning every square mm of it with alcohol. Basically refurbished it.

Don't quote me on this, but I think once you get the screws out, the rest is a clamshell with retainer clips all the way around. I think I used a thin ruler or something to pop it apart.

I have no idea why it would quit working, though.

not unusual for remote to break down, especially if the remote is at least 20yrs old or more. It could just simply be due to old age and parts failing. I suggest you can a learning remote to learn the important commands and copy another working set from your friend.

I see there is an RM-PJ1001 for sale on ebay. Would this work with my VPH-D50Q? I will try to repair this one by taking it apart and cleaning it but if that doesn't work, I would imagine getting a new one isn't easy.

Yes the 1001 would work fine for you. There are just a few extra controls on it. They're around; not an endless supply of course, but it shouldn't take you more than a couple of weeks to find one. If not eBay, then a wanted post in the buy/sell forum here would probably do the trick.
