Hi,
I'm in France.
I've a barco 808g since 11 years ago and the chassis has 32k hours now.
It works very well but the tubes have never been changed. They were already old when i started using the projector (the chassis had about 10k hours).
At that time, new tubes were quite expensive.
Nowadays, tubes have become affordable in "buy&sell" section of forum and i'm wondering if it is a good time to replace the old ones.
However, i'm not an expert, and before getting new ones, i'd like to find an experienced person who can do the replacement and settings.
I've posted a request on a popular french CRT forum but so far, i've got any reply. This may be because the CRT section of this forum is not so active any longer...
In parallel, i'v contacted a famous french barco pro but he is already in retirement and anymay he doesn't want to.
He says the electronics parts of my barco should be very old and he doesn't handle used tubes (even if they have only a few hours).
According to him, the difficulty is in settings not in physical replacement itself. 90% of the success would depend on the settings.

Does anyone in this forum by any chance know someone capable to do this replacement in France (or neadby)?
I'm also looking for advices or opinions to judge whether it's worth trying this replacement by my own...

Thank you for your help

Philippe

CRT is completely do it yourself at this point. Instructions are in the tech section on the main site, it's not hard to change out tubes at all. check out the 'tube wear' articles on the site, and judge your tubes against the pictures there. That will tell you how much better of an image you will get by changing out the tubes.

While there are many 808 units still in service, and I have not found failures of parts due to age on them yet, CRT for home theater is pretty dead at this point, so you are more or less on your own and the people on this forum.

Cheers!
