I'm getting some conflicting information.

In the thread linked above, someone says that HD10Es came on G90s. In other places, I've read that HD10Fs came on G90s.

So, whichever is correct, it needs to be noted, and the incorrect information edited or deleted.

I've acquired a set of HD10Fs and intend to replace my GT17s with them as part of my 9500's rebuild/upgrade project.

What ever else might be supplied with a G90 HD10fs certainly do I know as I have a set from a G90. Most would probably know that the Sony 1292 also came with HD10fs but these are inferior to the ones from a G90.

I have HD8 Rev B lenses (metal wing nuts, not plastic) on my BG 801s, is there some type of lens I can buy, or adjustment I can make to the current lenses to allow for a smaller screen size, I have been reading this thread about lenses and I am thoroughly confused.

Right now the HD8's at about 16' away is projecting a image way to big for the wall (I estimate about 150"), I need to shrink it down some to closer to 90-100" and moving the projector closer isn't an option (I rent, and cant ceiling mount, and cant put it in the middle of the room, girlfriend acceptance factor on the CRT is already pushed to the max). I CAN shrink the raster to fit the wall/screen, but its to the limits of the adjustment (not good for the CRTs) and blurs the picture too much (looks like crap).

I am new to CRTs, I have had DLP and LCD projectors (like 4 or 5) for the past 10-15 years and incorrectly assumed there would be a zoom of some kind on the CRT lenses, that's my bad, I should have done some research on CRT lenses before buying this BG 801s (though honestly for the price I would have probably got it anyways)

Any advice would be appreciated, and if you have a set of lenses for sale that would be better suited for my throw distance, I would appreciate it (I am not building a reference theater so, the lenses don't need to be perfect condition).

Just thought I would add the Water instead of glycol thread but if you try something like this wait for more test results.

There are reasons engineers choose glycol but we do love to experiment..... Wink

I Just got a set of HD10E's(HFQ 900's) from Tim, look how flat the inner element is on the HD10E(left) compared to the HD10 GT17's.

I wonder what difference to focus the curve of the inner element has or what factor it plays in overall focus.

Just for the heck of it( and lens caps are a PITA ) I just thought I would add this... JMO but rear HD-10 caps would be the first on my list. Thumbs Up

I remember sending a few front and rear caps to B.H for reproduction and they were never returned....

Sony 1292 and G90 use a HD10F - this is sometimes thought to be a HFQ900 - this is NOT confirmed.

However Barco call the Lens a HFQ900

I am under the understanding that these are "based" around an HD10E lens BUT have better edge focus and so "might" be hand picked with the tightest tolerance, or have a "special" outer focus system.

NOTE the HFQ900 has a platic front section on the Aliminium main body.

To colour filter these "Liquid Coupled" "LC" lens types you use a colour filtered "Critical" "C" Element

HD10L used for small screens in practice on a 1209s best suited to 4-6 foot wide screens

HD10GT17 / HD120 in practice on a 1209s best suited to 6 to 10 foot wide screens.

Has anyone verified the HD10f is the same as an HFQ900 ?

The white ring on the NEC HD-145s was simply to match their case color...as far as I can tell. I've got a few 75/85 chassis in beige/white.

Keep this coming...I've got a few sets of tubes hanging around here...LOL...wouldn't mind tradin' 'em for cash!

Info from Mike Parker regarding the high end HD10E and HFQ900 lenses:

Here's the deal:

The lenses used on the Barco 909 came in a Standard Option to include a Curve Screen option.

The Standard Option is the HD-10E and HFQ-900 lens set.... they are two different lenses..

Or as I was told, "they are definitely different" - Gino was right about the HFQ being a version of the 10E, but it's a very different version.

The HD-10E lens has a screen width of 90" to 300"

The HFQ-900 lens has a screen width of 7 feet to 72 feet

The design difference is what allows the HFQ-900 to be able to work with screens up to 72 feet wide. and because of the internal differences, it also provides it being considered a "Super High Definition" lens.

In other words, it would have either more or less internal lens elements than any of the previous designs.

-----

Now the HD-10E is very similar to the HD-10F, but of course that could depend on the version year. Both are specified to go up to 300" wide screen, but also depending on the version, the smaller size could be different. Not sure why there are two different lens models with almost the same specs.

Also, the lens were labeled as HD-10XXX - and that explains why there was one set of lenses that were sold to different manufacturers, but could be "labeled over" (HD-10/GT17, etc.) But there would be an original HD-10 number for them all.

So an HD-10E lens could perform very close or close to a particular year version of the HD-10E. The HD-10E lens were most likely a beta or research version, and that could explain why it surfaced later after the HD-10F had its near 20 year run.

The GT-17 is most likely a HD-120, but could still perform very close to the HD-10F because they all work best up to a 10 feet wide screen.

It is also believed that both Barco and Electrohome used the same 9" lens sets, with the exception of the Barco 909.

There's more info on this, but it's somewhat encrypted..

Added by Curt:

In true Runco fashion, they take the ID stickers off the lenses, but I can confirm that the Runco DTV 1200 (Cine 9) comes with HFQ 900 lenses. Both the 10E and HFQ900 lenses are unique in the front lens barrel is plastic rather than metal, the way it is on all other 9" lenses. Once you touch or see either a 10E or HFQ900 lens, you'll know that you'll see a difference.

Keep in mind that RUnco also took the stickers off all other 9" lenses, so the RUnco 1000/1100/1101 all typically came with HD-120s, the same lenses as the Barco 1209s had.

Anyone know the throw distance differences between HD18 (Sony G70 LC lenses) and HD145?

Some update about HD6C-ML lenses.
They optically surprised me, for on my NEC 9PG they are better than i thought they would be.
Corners on 1080i are really sharp.

But they are extremely unstable. If you touch them just softly with one finger, the whole picture shifts
about 1-3cm on the screen and you have to redo static convergence.
So optical 9/10, mechanical 1/10.
Color filtering seems very good to me, too. But i have no other CF lenses to sompare them to.
But as they are multilayer coated and a person we all know especially like the nec fleshtone, i assume,
the HD6C ML play their color filtering part well, too.

I hope i'm not the only person, whose interest is on 8" AC anymore. Otherwise, just for completeness of the thread here.

Domenico: I can say that my LC modded 801s is throwing a 2,5m width at a lens-screen distance of about 3,5m.
Not measured accurately, but you know... it depends on phosphor use. I always set up my projectors with as much phosphor use as possible. Image (not raster) edge to edge.

Regards, Julian

I had to use HD6C-ML lenses on my PG xtra for quite a while, later I directly compared it to the HD-145. While I didn't have much mechanical problem with them, but I also found very little difference between them. The HD145 has a touch better corner focus, but in the middle they are indistinguishable. I found the HD145 to have a slightly better contrast too, but that maybe was only the result of the better corner focus. But the difference between them is certanly not that big than it looks in their price (free vs. $50-$60)

How about halos, gjaky? Let's say you have a black background and place your mouse coursor somewhere in it, do you see horizontal bands
as high your coursor is? I don't see any round halos, but those horizontal bands, depending on G2 settings, too.
