Hey guys
I want to fix up my sony 1271 so I can sell it. It seems to "forget" its zone convergence settings after being off and unplugged for a while, meaning I have to re do the convergence every time I turn it on.
Is there a little backup battery in the PJ that could be dead? Or is it more likely to be the problem described on this page: http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony125x_Layout8.shtm
From that page:
Quote: | Under the shield between the R and B tubes are the CPU boards. Actual failure of these boards again is rare, but bad module or IC socket connections can result in erratic operation or convergence memory failure. |

Ive never had one apart, but open it up and pull out any socketed IC on those boards, then give them a clean up, and push them back in.
If there is a battery ( and i dont know if there is or not ) , see what voltage it is, and if its a NiCd, replace it straight away cause they destroy things when they leak.

as far as I am aware the 12xxQ line of projectors doesn't have any battery backup for settings, it should all be stored in the memory board even when unplugged. I would guess the memory board (or whatever board itis that saves the settings). I've worked on a 1272Q pretty thuroughly and haven't yet seen this issue pop up on it.
Curt may know more about this I'm sure..

How much do you want for this old dog anyway? What are the tubes like?

hey mate
I would be quite happy with $150, and the tubes are actually pretty good. Only the blue tube has any wear on it, and is about a 6 on the tube wear rating. Has only done just under 3000 hours. Im pretty determined to fix up any issues it has so it can continue to provide service to a good home. Once its down from the ceiling ill redo the solder joints to see if that helps.

Shipping to and from Australia is indeed a killer if living in the United States! That's a nice projector though. It makes for some good pictures. I have a good friend who owns one and he is very happy with it.

The home theater construction project never ends! Any advice on seating would be appreciated. I know Family Leisure sells them. Any other ideas?

We are both in Australia. I wouldnt bother to ship a projector from the USA unless it was a 10PG or a Cine 9.
