I have been waiting for these TV's to come out because they were the lowest possible cost of entry for 3D in my living room. I have had my 42" Vizio in my living room for 4 years without issue so I was contemplating upgrading to the 47" Theater3D version and relocating the 42" downstairs for family room duty.
I was picking up a weather radio yesterday at Wally World and I noticed they had both the 42" and 47" Theater 3D models on display with a Sony 3D Bluray player with the Tron menu cycling. The "electronics expert" came over and started up the movie for me. While they had all of the TV's hooked up via repeaters...only one of the TV's was showing it in 3D...the 47" Theater 3D Vizio.
IMMEDIATELY I noticed incredible judder...or at least that is what I think it was...the movie was clearly playing at a different rate because the surrounding TV were about 1 second farther into the movie than the Theater 3D tv was...
What caused this? Is it a function of the Bluray player? Is it common for all 3D tvs? Is it just a crappy implementation by Vizio? Is it a function of the passive 3D? Is it simply the beginning of Tron which has a long panning sequence?
It kind of put the brakes on my living room upgrade plans.

Hmm, I see judder with pans on my Panasonic plasma and Vizio plasma. The Panasonic is supposed to be 600 Hz, as if that even mattered. But, both are less than stellar, but they are what they are: 2D boob-tubes of the lowest price-point when purchased.
The one-second thing seems more of a problem. Did the one 3D TV have the video passing through the repeater you mentioned?

Couldn't tell...I might go check it out again and take a quick cell phone video.
I haven't seen the new Tron movie so I am not sure if that scene has judder on my other display devices but I wouldn't think it is that obvious.
Someone go to Wally World and check out this demo to see if I am dreaming!
Come on Wan...I know you go there weekly!

The Lexus of Wally Worlds nearest me ($100K cars in lot et al) does not have any 3D setups for any 3D flat panel manufacturer. I was surprised when you mentioned it as I was just in that section on Friday. And I have the Tron BD, and didn't catch any judder issues through the JVC.

Good to hear about Tron...is your JVC 3D though? I am wondering if it is a function of the 3D?
BTW...I hadn't been to this Wally World in a few months and was really surprised by the new wall-o-tv's they have set up. Looks just like Best Buy now.

No, my JVC is not 3D. Nor was its replacement (RS25). Only the current models support 3D.
I guess I thought the judder wasn't a function of the 3D, but rather just due to straight poor video processing on pans.

That might be possible...but the 42" 3D version directly below the 47" model didn't have the 3D enabled (for some reason) and it was NOT displaying this judder...so I had deduced at the time that it was attributable to the 3D.

So I was browsing the AVS 3D forum regarding these Vizio passive 3D tvs and it seems that the 120Hz setting has a few different modes and people have been noticing lag in one of the modes. I will try to stop by Wall World tomorrow to see what is possible for me to change on the TV. Hopefully it was just a bad setting with the frame/refresh rates.
