Just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and a quick update on the status. All remaining parts are ordered and on their way, the crate is progressing and I optimistically expect to be able to ship in two weeks

You don't want to know how much furniture we had to move around in order to make that picture.

If you took those to Cedia next year, then you could easily sell a couple of dozen.

I took the time to compile a list of materials and vendors. If anyone has some additional questions I will update the document. I also have to post the new version of the variable HV-supply. I had to make some changes because of some undocumented 'features' in the amplifier IC.

Kim,

I want to thank you for sharing all this with us including all the details and pictures!

Believe it or not, it has been a nostalgic trip for. I recall as a youth taking the bus to downtown Pittsburgh to visit a high end audio emporium that had a pair of KLH 9's driven by the big Mac tube monoblocks. The guy that owned the store didn't mind me just sitting and listening. I will never forget the sound - There is nothing quite like a full range 'stat.

Years later, I came very close to building a pair of the David Hermeyer direct drive 'stats that you might have heard about in ancient history research.

Again, many thanks for taking me back on a pleasant voyage.

BTW, I did end up spending a number of years with a pair of Dayton-Wright XG8's, if you have ever heard of them.

Bob,

Thanks for your story, I have never heard of David Hermeyer (I need to look him up) but I do know about the Dayton-Wrights.

But there is more... Laughing

I have progressed with the crate and should be ready to package soon, see a picture below.

I also have one of the interface boxed finished and the other one is in progress

I will post a few better pictures when they are finished, I have some nicer looking hardware on order.

I also weighted these puppies, they are about 120lbs/55kg each. The crate weighs even more and it isn't even finished yet.

Sweet. Congrats.

That crate must weigh a lot, but super secure for those precious babies.

Cheers

Yep, my estimate is between 350 and 400lbs total, crate and speakers.

Kim,

I have been "daydreaming" about redoing my HT setup in a separate room in my basement. One of the ideas I was toying with, so I could utilize a pair of your 'stats of an extra large size, was to install them both in a wall that separates the HT from the rest of the basement.

In this configuration, they would no longer be bipolar as the backwave would get lost in what can be considered an infinite baffle. This way, the back wave would no longer cancel out the front wave as you are aware. It has been a while since I had a 'stat, so I can't remember, but what is the frequency at which this cancellation begins? Is it 1/2 wavelength of the width? Also, is this response dropoff at single pole or double pole?

Hopefully I can turn this dream into reality because I really like what you have done, and really want to have them.

Thanks,
Bob
