Link Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2010 9:06 pm Post subject: Moome DVI Card in a Sony G90 |
|
|
I have a several year old (not sure exactly how much) DVI input card I got for my Sony G90
I'm finally setup to do some 1080p input from a BluRay player and I'm seeing green snow on the screen, over at AVS Forum they suggested it's my cable (I've got about a 35 foot run of HDMI cable with and HDMI to DVI converter at the end) but when I turned the 24P conversion in my bluray player to ON so it did the 24->30fps change for me I got less snow which is now red instead of green. And the image seems okay if it's bright but then flickers when it's darker.
So a few questions. Should the G90 handle 24hz at 1080P? Is the snow the older card or the cable?
any thoughts?
thank you,
-R

No, no CRT handles 24 hz. Switch it off. Green snow generally means your HDMI cable is too long, or is of poor quality. Have you tried a shorter HDMI run?

Actually, the G90 will display a 1080p 24Hz image from a BD player. G90 is the only projector I know that can do it. The image is however unwatchable due to the flicker from the low frequency. But at least the G90 running 24Hz will allow you to see what is going on in the menus.
You need to set the BD player to 1080p 60Hz for viewing purposes.
But as Curt and others suggest, you have a DVI cable that can't handle the bandwidth of the signal you are sending. This is confirmed because you get different colored snow when you change the bandwidth by changing the frequency.
Change and upgrade the cable. a 22 AWG silver plated copper cable from monoprice will likely work. However, the older DVI cards did not tolerate long cables as well as the newer HDMI cards do. So even with a good cable you might still have problems though they can usually be worked out.

Thanks for the info, looks like it might be worth upgrading the card. I'll probably wait for the 1.4 card to come out before I do that. There seems to be infomration on Moome site but nothing else I can find anywwhere so I guess I'll stay tuned. If that doesn't fix it I'll upgrade the cable too..

Moome card Let your CRT PJ with HDMI 3D+HDMI1.4+14bits~No problem Moome let your PJ(SONY G90/Barco/Marquee...any CRT & PJ) have the below functions:
1.HDMI 1.3/1.4 (Type A and Type D connector) support with Deep Color support 30bit/36bit
2.stereoscopic 3D ability along with HDMI input/output
3.supports 480p60/720p60/1080p60 YUV-4:2:2/RGB-4:4:4 8bit/10bit video with embedded 48khz/24bps
4.HDCP compliant
5.with Gamma and IR remote
If that picture thing worked then it should show there's a picture there of card that goes into the projector, and it's showing the above listing as a HDMI1.4
This is what I was asking about?
